OK. My worst fall ever.
Donner Ski Ranch (No. shore Tahoe). Race training with Code 3 Ski Club. Running a Super G Course, hard snow very fast. Got going too fast for a L hand turn (approx 45-50mph) missed turn and went off course at speed. Hit a jump put in by some kids, went airborne did a 1 1/2 gainer sideways and landed on my face/head. Didn't ski the rest of the day, had a hell of a headache. Driving home I blacked out (concussion) in front of Sugar Bowl went up an embankment of snow (no seat belt circa 1987) rolled truck over and fell out on roadway. Spent 2 hrs in Tahoe Truckee Hospital, airlifted to Reno hospital and spend 3 weeks in hospital, blind in R eye for 4 months, wife says it was also 4 months before I made any sense. Was off work for 11 months.
Moral of story: Wear your seatbelt dummy and don't disrespect a head injury. Lesson learned. Wore an eye patch for about 4 months but didn't stop me from hiking up to see my wife race at Mammoth that year, she came in with a Silver too.
