Who's@ Vail/BC Feb 3-8, 2015 and mini Beaver Creek trip report

I'm out here staying in Minturn, actually for next two weeks, but flying solo first few days.  Looking for ski buddies.  Probably will do mtn tour at Vail today.  1st time there since 1976:eek.  Need to find out how to take Minturn Mile back home tonight.

Skied a couple hours yesterday afternoon at Beaver Creek. 3-5" new snow in morning had slopes in great shape.

Who is this celeb with European TV crew at Beaver Creek Village for the World Championships?

This is the Redtail Finish Stadium for many of the speed events at Beaver Creek.  Today I watched a few ladies downhill training runs.  Good skiing up in Larkspur Bowl in background.

View of upper part of Down Hill course on Birds of Prey from Grouse Mtn.  Lots of loose snow on the Grouse Mtn black diamond runs.  No people.

I caught the 3pm cookiefest, but missed the 330pm champagne blast... next time.

According to Epicmix I logged 10 lift rides and about 16500 vertical feet at BC in just over two hours.

That sure looks to me like Kjetil Jansrud, current downhill leader.

I'd love continued reports--I'll be there Feb. 11-15 for all the tech races. Nice to hear it's still skiing well, though the long range forecast looks dismal (freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw). If you are attending any of the races, let me know how early you got there to get a seat (I've really no clue if it will be packed, or more like the regular Birds of Prey races where it isn't hard to find a seat).

3:30 champagne blast???

Don't do it alone.  Find a group you trust.  With the storm coming tonight, you really don't want to spend the night out there like these folks:

Have fun at Vail.  It should be a great week!

Didn't even pick up on guy being famous too.  The lady was being given a TV make-up job just before I took this photo.  Believe she is a racer from Europe?  Supposedly the Ladies GS final was pretty crowded yesterday.  I might spectate at the mens Super G today,

Have fun at Vail.  It should be a great week!

An ambassador showed me the most popular entrance point for it, but I had driven to Vail yesterday and had to get back to my car and didn't do Minturn Mile.  But yeah, don't want to make a mistake in there alone.  Supposedly a lot of people take it around 3pm and I will try to connect with an experienced person.  May try it Thursday.  I'd like to avoid the parking hassle at Vail if I could by using an Eagle County bus from Minturn in the morning and skiing home in afternoon on a regular basis.

She looks to me like the tv reporter that would be interviewing Kjetil. She doesn't look like any racer I know, she's awfully pretty and there would be a makeup person for the reporter, and she isn't wearing anything sponsored (that's the real giveaway).

On tv the Super G yesterday DID look really crowded. Which is great, but I guess we'll just plan on being there well in advance of the start next week.

Yeah, maybe wait at the top of the short hike around 3pm.  Folks usually regroup there before heading down the one nice pitch you ski after heading out the gate,  so it would be a good place to assess their experience.  Definitely go with someone who has done it before.  It's not terribly difficult to navigate, but IIRC there are a few places you can screw up like the folks in that article.  Maybe offer to buy a drink at the Saloon so they make sure you make it there.  :)

Have fun!  Wish I was up there today!

Storm day at BC on Feb 4.  They had to postpone the Men's Super G to tomorrow.
