Jackson Hole/Grand Targhee right now

Hi all. Anyone just back from (or now skiing) JHMR or GT who can give me an idea of conditions?

We're headed there this weekend and hope that actual on-the-ground conditions are as good as they look in the on-line reports from the resorts.

Dunno about "right now", but the forecast holds some promise for Monday eve/Tuesday.

I would not trust the online reports from the resorts.  Their job is to market the resort any way they can.  That's why every site has photos of attractive people blasting through knee-deep pow.  It doesn't matter if that photo was taken in 2013.

That said, I can tell you from my own looking around at conditions that you are headed in the right direction.  Just go over to OnTheSnow and look at the first hand reports and the snowfall totals by day.

I skied Jackson this past Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Conditions were good but not great, there was no new snow but the warm temperature helped soften up the snow. You can start skiing early morning on runs that don't get much sun and late morning/afternoon you can ski anywhere, around 3PM places start to be in the shade and get a little sketchy but overall good skiing!

I'm not sure how the temperature is right now, but if it gets bellow freezing and I think it's going to  be miserable unless they get new snow, as long as it's warm there is good skiing to be found!

So gnarly runs you will find rocks and need to pay attention, expert chutes, alta chutes, tower 3 all had nasty rocks, corbets had a rock right in the middle of the landing from the jump turn in the entrance and it's probably worse now. Piste skiing is good, wasn't icy and good coverage in general.

I've been here for 3 days and there has been minimal new snow and warm days. It's spring skiing in the afternoon and crust in the mornings. During mid day when it softens, it's hardpack.  The trees are icy.  We are waiting for an expected snowfall this weekend - fingers crossed.
