On another Epic thread, I screwed around for a while, in spite of Atomicman's good sense suggestion.
I'd used sandpaper, then added a 90* wood block over it held down by a C clamp. These work some, the added wood block much better than the sandpaper alone, but.... Use such a sharpened scraper back to back with a brand new scraper, and it's no comparision.
By the way, the brand new scraper lasts for half a dozen pairs of skis plus before needing sharpening, so a good sharpening should last much longer than you're getting, hobieboy.
(In years past I've also tried clamped down files, with mixed results.)
So I finally broke down and ordered the Mantac. It just arrived in the mail, not half an hour ago. Will let you know how it works.
Note: It's available multiple places, but the one Atomicman gives is the cheapest, in my searches. For example, http://www.tognar.com/mantac-electric-wax-scraper-sharpener/.
