Vermont Recommendations (Killington Area)

I am going on a Vermont trip in late February with a small group and staying between Pittsford and Rutland. We plan to hit Killington on that Friday, and since Okemo is less than an hour drive we were planning to ski there on Saturday. I noticed that Pico was pretty close by and it's a bit cheaper than Okemo (some people have to rent both days). Would Pico be pretty crowded on a Saturday since it is a smaller resort? If we choose Pico, would it make more sense to ski that on Friday and Killington on Saturday? Any recommendations for the weekend would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Killington on Friday. Pico on Saturday. Okemo for low pitch groomers.

Killington on Fri, it's less crowded weekdays. Pico is never crowded so I'd hit there Sat. Both Okemo & Killington can be a zoo on weekends. Even though Pico is a smaller area than Okemo the skiing is far better there. Okemo lacks any challenge. Where're you staying? I'm based in Pittford when in VT., just left there yesterday after a few days on the slopes.

Echoing/confirming the thread consensus: Killington Friday and Pico Saturday will be your best bet for terrain quality and lowest crowds.

Make sure to buy tickets separately. Killington may simply try and sell you a 2-day ticket, but it will probably cheap to buy a single day at Killington and then a separate ticket to Pico. Liftopia often has a very good discount on Pico tickets.

On second thought maybe you should go to Pico Fri. In case you're not aware Fri. is guys day at Pico. Guys pay only $26 for a lift ticket. Since you also mentioned some in your group will need rentals they are also $26 for guys on Fri. Gals get the same deal on Thurs. These deals are not available during Presidents week if that's when you're going. Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I saw the Pico deal on Friday for guys, BUT we will be there on Friday, February 20 which is the Friday after President's Day. They are considering the entire week "peak period" and the discount is not valid.

I think we are going to buy the 1-day pass for Killington on Liftopia for $69 and head to Pico on Saturday via Liftopia for renters (lift+rental $80) and Pico's website for non-renters (lift $50).

We are staying in a vacation rental in Pittsford.

You got good deals on your lift tickets. K-Tickets purchased for the holidays in October/November would have only been as low as $61.

Since price is not going to be a factor, you are making the right call with visiting Killington on Friday vs Saturday. Given it will be a holiday week it will make much less of a difference, but Friday will still be the better crowd day at Killington.

If your group is able to ski the terrain off of other lifts, avoid Ramshead and K1 from 10-2. The K1 gets busy even midweek during those hours. Snowdon to North Peak can get you to the same terrain.

Here is to hoping the weather stays nice and cold and snowy through February.

Do Killington on Friday.

Saturdays at Killington is way too crowded.

I was just there this past Friday-Sat (killington)  (with a group of Delaware & Philly people).  One of my high school friends is a psychologist for UD

I never found Killington too crowded. It is so big that there are always places to go. That said I think if skiing it one day I would do it Friday and Pico the next.

A side note. Sugar Bush is only about an hour away as well if another bigger mountain is desired.
