Ski lesson recommendations in Park City

Thread Starter

I will be in Park City this weekend staying for 4 nights at Canyons. I've only been skiing for about the past 3 years (29 years old) but i'm totally hooked. When I was younger I snowboarded a few times but never liked it too much. Since I switched to skis it's a different story. I've probably gotten in about 30+ days total in past 3 years, so not much and when I do it's never more than 5 days at a time. I haven't ever taken a lesson of any sort. I'm planning on taking off a full month with my wife and baby and staying in Tahoe next year so that I can spend time with the new kid (mostly for the skiing though!). We live in San Diego and Tahoe is the most convenient location where the whole family would be happy.

So...I really want to take a lesson but I just can't get over how expensive they are. I want to try to stay in Park City since that is where my pregnant wife will be and I can't totally ditch her all day and head over to the infamous Alta snow.

I'm just looking for any recommendations on the 3 main resorts, Canyons, PCMR, and Deer Valley and where I would be best off taking maybe a half day lesson. As for my level, I can ski blue's at most resorts just fine, but have only been on a few blacks and that was at Heavenly/Northstar (I think they felt more like the Blues at most other resorts). I am really just looking to build confidence and be able to explore new terrain. Ideally, I would like to get up to the point where I am able to head into the sidecountry comfortably in search of powder. I'm not trying to kid myself and become a race skier this late in the game, but I do occasionally dream of packing our things and moving to West Denver to raise the kids as pro skiers.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Yo.  Personally, I'd ski primarily at PCMR or DV, not the Canyons.  Much better terrain.  I'm guessing that you might find DV to be the "ultimate" in terms of terrain and conditions.  They have some of the best intermediate/expert ripping groomers on the planet.
