I took a race clinic and got hooked, and I'm looking for a non-FIS slalom ski to improve my technique and race on. Race courses around here are short and sometimes pretty flat, and gates can have quite a bit of offset near the top of the course. Most races are Nastar-type modified GS, but some are slalom. I'm currently skiing on my Head Rally's at 170cm. (I'm 5'10", 165 lb, strong skier, but new at gates).
A lot of the skiers I ski with, including some coaches, have recommended a slalom ski for the technique and fun factor, and also because we tend to ski flatter courses.
What length of slalom ski should I consider? I'm thinking 155 or 160. What are the advantages of shorter vs. longer for me?
