In eruope it is unheard of to ride a chairlift and not have the bar down and is only lifted when you are within say 20' or so of the landing point. some lifts lower and raise the bar automatically. We have skied several times in colorado and have 2 weeks in steamboat and snowmass in march.
my question is why do so many people in the US prefer to leave the bar up. I have myself been on lifts in the US and tried to pull the bar down only to be given a hard time by others on the lift. I have always managed to pull the bar down but it seems a lot of people are happier to have the bar up!!
or should i just man up and have the bar up and see it as an additional adrenaline ride to the top of the mountain.
