Funny. Just ran a consumer demo day at our local mountain today. The new "full rocker" Mantra was the most popular 100mm+ model, by far. Also, the RTM 81 was also well received. So, are the ELP rockered Volkls a "fail"? Nope.
By the way, my Volkl rep didn't push the ELP rockered RTMs all that hard, he just represented them for what they were. He and I don't always agree on Volkl or Marker design trends, but that is fine. Volkl has always treated me very well as a dealer, and stands behind it products good, bad, and otherwise.
I personally didn't/don't love to ski the rockered RTMs, but many of my customers love theirs. Doesn't mean that they suck, just different tastes for different skiers. I don't even own a Volkl ski, but respect the brand and it's products. I also dislike the Bonafide and the Flip Core Blizzards, but that doesn't mean that they suck either. Just not my cuppa tea.
As far as Volkl and Marker being the same company, Phil, you know that it isn't entirely true. Separate design teams, separate manufacturing facilities, etc.. Definitely some synergy between the two companies and same brass (along with K2 and the other Jarden-owned outfits), but not the same product or company. Even so, every manufacturer has it's strong offerings, along with some not so strong. Believe me, Marker has heard a great deal of my displeasure with their current binding tech, but my complaints there don't have anything to do with Volkl skis. Separate issues.
