WHERE TO GO TOMORROW - WINDHAM, BELLAYRE or JIMMINY PEAK

Hello!!

These three mountains are all about 2.5 hours from me. I want to take a spontaneous day trip with my son. We like long blue machine groomed cruisers. Where do y'all think we should go?

For its size, Jiminy pretty much owns the market on blue groomers. Nice upscale atmosphere, too.

I don't know how long runs you are looking but Jiminy is not a big mountain. never been to windham or bellayre, so can't comment on those. Would you consider Stratton or mount snow? They are much better for long blue runs, especially, mount snow. The whole front face is pretty much top to bottom blue runs. I used to go to Jiminy a lot when I lived inTroy ny. Only 40-45 mins away from that area. They offer nice night skiing. But I wouldn't go there if you are looking for long blues. negative side of Stratton or mount snow is the lift ticket price.

I don't know where you are coming from but Elk in PA has some nice blues. Only 1000 vertical but groomed really well in general. On Wednesdays they have $25 lifts for college students with a school ID.

Elk feels small compared to Belleayre even though they are about the same size overall.  A little more variety at Belleayre.  Belleayre lifts are on the slow side.  I liked both when I checked them out for the first time last season.

Windham is somewhat bigger in terms of acreage.  Seems to have a couple of express quads so that's a plus.  Since the OP is planning to midweek, probably makes more sense to go somewhere closer to the NY Thruway instead of going over to Elk.  On weekends, the advantage of Elk is that is more off the beaten path.

We ended up going to Jiminey Peak. It was so great! The conditions were perfect and it felt like we had our own private mountain. Yes, with 1100 vert it is smaller than something like Windham that has 1600 but with the high speed lift we spent a ton of time on the snow with no waiting at all. The machine groomed snow was amazing which is exactly what we were looking for. We are not glade skiers and prefer blue cruisers so this was really perfect. Actually, we went to Stratton two weeks ago (it was during Holiday week so it was jammed) and we both agreed that we prefer JP but I am sure on a quiet day Stratton is lovely.

I cannot think of any negatives about yesterday....All in a fantastic day at the mountain.

That sounds like a day at Jiminy to me.  Definitely not a mountain with a huge variety of terrain/conditions, but excellent at what it does.

Glad you had fun.
