When I taught middle school the school's soccer players would get all excited when it rained hard. They loved playing in the mud.

I remember having to play soccer in the snow back in 9th grade. Had to play in official uniform, only the keepers could wear long pants. The ball was frozen solid. It was a painful experience. Pretty sure these days they'd postpone any game below high school in those conditions simply due to the fact that a frozen ball causes more concussions. That USA vs Costa Rica match last year was hilarious though.
Playing in the pouring rain was a lot more fun. They don't really do that anymore though because the fields get cratered up pretty bad if people play on them when saturated.
