I just started instructing part time at Beaver Creek this season and I'm trying to decide on some new skis.
I'm 48 years old, 5' 9", 195 lbs. I'm not sure how to rate my ability, but I'm probably somewhere around a 7 on the number scale.
I spend all of my time on the groomers. I don't ski trees (maybe someday). I'm just so so in deeper snow, and want to improve. I don't ski a lot of bump runs, but I would like to get better at skiing bumps as well.
I'm currently skiing a 2013 Volkl Kendo 170cm which is 89 underfoot.
I also own a pair of 2011 Blizzard Magnum 8.1 172cm skis which I haven't skied in a while, and a set of 2011 Blizzard The One in a 177cm length.
In a new ski, I'm looking for something that is good for groomed trails that I can also take into deeper snow occasionally. I have it in my head that the Kendo is probably a lot stiffer than what I need, and I would like something that is more forgiving and handles a variety of conditions fairly well.
I will likely end up buying a wider ski for powder days at some point, so for now I'm just looking for a new ski at the narrower end of my quiver.
I would appreciate your recommendations for brands and models, as well as ski length. I'm thinking at my weight I should be on something closer to 180cm.
