Fischer Boot Flex Increase?

Thread Starter

Hi Boot Guys:  Is there anything wrong with removing the two "lock down" bolts on the rear of my (hideously ugly) Fischer X120 boots to increase flex a bit (old knees, don't ya know)?

I would, of course, tape over the holes inside the shell to keep moisture out.

Also, I would henceforth ski them only with the thinnest socks available to mankind! ;)

yes, there is something wrong with removing the spine bolts.

Dang it, I suspected this was too easy.

Care to elaborate on why this is a "no-no"?

Thanks, Jim!

A ski boot has rebound in the shell with the bolts in---not so when you take them out.

rebound is a good thing:)

try without the bolts for a few runs and see if the flex is what you want  (yes, rebound might be gone)

if you like the softer flex, a boot fitter can soften the boot for you.

I did a morning without the spine bolts and it seemed to be a bit of an improvement, but certainly not huge.  No noticeably decrease in rebound.

I might get the same effect by replacing the spine bolts, and not tightening the booster straps as tight as humanly possible.

Old habits from the years of battling for prizes and ego in City League racing die hard, though!

Best would probably be to go back in time, and NOT give up three knee surgeries to youthful dirt bike racing........

Super helpful, Jim.  Thanks!

I learned two things in that video:  1) how to reduce stiffness of a boot, and 2) that I need to add a flex-shaft grinder to my tool collection.

Ha!
