New England weather -- how do I love thee? Let me count the ways - Page 12

It's almost 50 degrees already in Massachusetts, forecast 60 by 11am.  Taking our grandson to Wachusett this morning.  Finally some soft snow.

Yesterday was as you described, today will be very different.

The good thing is that all that ice Cannon has been stockpiling softened up  nicely.

I am expecting a repeat of this pattern today.

Yeah, I'm thinking today was the day. This little thing called work intrudes. frown.gif

Mm-mmm.  Northish, sounds like.

Looks like cold and windy. Less than an inch.
So no soft bumps. They'll be frozen piles.

Looks like the mountains of New England get "sunny and warm" today with a serious drop in temperature tonight with some snow coming tomorrow.  I have no idea what to expect for snow conditions tomorrow...  Somewhere between "blue ice" and "powder".  "Variable" could be the word of the day tomorrow.

There's not going to be much snow in southern VT. Jay might get a decent amount. Most of it seems to be northernish Maine.

I think it'll be a little warmer than last Sat. with some snow. Rock hard in most places. Maybe soft sedimentary rocks, but not as soft as the canyons they have around Los Alamos in New Mexico. Plus, there'll be wind approx 20mph.

In other words, normalish, not Springish. Outdoor lounging and eating will probably not be comfortable.

So there.) That's my prediction :  Sedimentary rock with some dust and wind.

I took a day off to avoid that little thing and skied at Cannon. Excellent spring day, although a little sticky in the afternoon. Some grass and rocks appearing in the glades and natural snow trails.

It's looking like so Vt may get nothing but immature powder and temps may be in the 40's Sat.

Sounds like Maine got the goods from this one. Stowe was great for a few turns up top, but was then highly variable the rest of the way down. Quad and Gondi went on wind hold. I just skied the morning for a few runs.

On and off snow showers since early AM here at Killington.  Maybe and inch or two total accumulation.  Temps right around freezing at the base.

Loon was great yesterday! North Peak was the best. South Peak was pretty mushy but still covered well. And in the shade under the Gondola it was pretty good until the slush puddles at the very bottom. It hit 67 degrees at the base around 2:30! The weather brought out the spring crazies though. I was skiing down Ripsaw with my friend. We were about 20' apart and staggered moving at a pretty good clip, when we heard someone behind yell, "Thread the needle!" Then a 20-ish guy wearing shorts and no shirt cut right between us! Really? Almost got hit another time too. I was skiing fast slalom turns down the right side of Upper Walking Boss about 10' from the tree line when a guy blew by me on my right between me and the trees in 'stealth mode' (i.e., without warning)! WTF? But you gotta love spring skiing!

It started better than it ended. Snow stopped, wind came up and put everything but the T-bar on hold ... which then became busy, and the good snow was elsewhere in any case. So, A grade for the a.m. but B- for the p.m.

Talked to the g.m. They are planning to be open through the 19th. Some good deals for kids and college students that weekend.

At Cannon it snowed all day.  In the morning it was buttery creme on top of corn; as the cold front came in it slowly firmed up.  The puddles became see-thru ice, but there were'nt many. Those  frozen puddles remained grippable.  The "snow" as it froze became slicker; very nice actually.

All day was a winner, unless your clothing got soggy in the early morning 34degree snow.

But Friday was goggle tan spring skiing.

Was there really 12" as they said today? How was it?

Anyone ready to talk about northeast skiing yet?  If so, head over to the NE thread for 2015-16.
