420 tourism?

Going to Summit County for the first time since marijuana legalization and though I'm not a pothead I thought it would be nice to partake of some legal cannabis while on the trip. (Après ski of course).

With all the lodging being non-smoking how does one smoke some weed legitimately in Colorado while on vacation? (Late 40's professional here FWIW)

You either find a hotel that is cannabis friendly (almost none, although that is changing, and don't expect any chain or resort affiliated hotel to change any time soon), or you discretely and illegally light up.

I think most take the safety meeting approach in the woods.  However, be warned that smoking on Forest Service land (read: almost all ski areas in Colorado) falls under federal jurisdiction where possession, let along consumption, is still a federal offense. Prosecutions are rare but they do happen.

Yup. My dogsitter was busted at a Forest Service campground in Wa.

The hotel we stayed in over the weekend in the NE Cascades made us sign something that read:

No Smoking OF ANY KIND.

Might have to get a vaporizer for the hotel room. That's technically not smoking, right? ;tongue.gif. Or make some new friends...

It's a conundrum; first chance to smoke weed legally and may not be able to. Completely.

Since you mentioned it was for apres skii I don't imagine the forest service presents an issue. Yes… vape… It's better for you anyways.

Edibles perhaps?

Who is gonna tell if you smoke in the hotel room? Hotbox the bathroom, go to dinner, leave the fan on, and by the time you get back the smell with be gone. Weed smoke is much different than cigarette smoke. It doesn't linger.

It does; you probably just don't remember. ;)

FYI - a lot of the rooms at Copper and Keystone have small balconies.

Just got back from Breck and had a great time.  Went to Breck Organic Therapy to to do some legal cannabis shopping!  Pretty hefty tax- 25% +/-, but better that than the social tax of jail and organized crime...but I digress.

No issues with the smoking.  The hotel was sparsely populated and we had a nice private balcony, high wood rails and trees all around.  Both vaped and smoked.

We walked by the Cannabis club on Main Street and there was always a line out the door, lol.  Thanks for the suggestions- it was fun to smoke weed for the first time in like almost 20 years, and to do so legally. :D

P.S. - the weed was awesome, its great to be able to know what your getting and that it is good.

I'm glad you enjoyed the weed. How was the skiing?!!!!!

Except for some freshies in the Copper bowls on 2 days, not that great.  Snow wasn't that good at Breck, though we did find some decent soft snow here and there- mostly had to follow the groomers; and A-basin was pretty boney still.   First time at Zuma bowl and unfortunately snow wasn't good.  It's amazing that Breck has almost twice the base that A-basin has...

Still all in all, a great time- haven't been to Colorado in a while (been favoring Utah the last few years) so it was great to be back.

Had my first sketchy pot shop experience in CO last week.  Stopped at a pot shop in Mancos (yeah I know).  I walk in and a bell chirps but no one is around and all the doors are closed.  I wait 5 mins, I hear someone coughing off in another room, wait a little longer and no one shows so I bail.  As I am driving off some guy comes running out the door full speed and chases me down then tells me to come back inside to do business.  Funny but not very professional.

We walked into a boot fitter yesterday, and there were three customers sprawled on couches, waiting to have an orthotic made. They were talking, or at least the orthotic customer was, but they were also staring into space with hammered looks on their faces. They each had a dog in their lap, and they were fondling the dogs dreamily. The orthotic customer had his arm around a big, Malamutie animal, which he face-nuzzled while he talked -- he was the only one talking, as I said. The girl, who was wearing groovy tights, looked at nobody and nothing, but she was playing with the ears of one of the shop dachshunds and gazing at something profoundly fascinating in some galaxy not our own.

It got me thinking how much easier it would be to be stoned all the time than to be drunk all the time -- though I could be wrong. My (reasonably extensive) experience took place long ago, in another era. And I've never been drunk all the time.

Funny, even if I were in CO, I'd be thinking how much easier it would be to always be able to reach out and rub a dog's ears. biggrin.gif

The weed up there is potent.  It'll couch lock even the most practiced stoners and induce animal petting.

So I've heard. Gives me pause.

I got some Death Star which was 19% THC.  Also got some stuff that was 1996 Cannabis Cup winner, 17%.  The stuff people smoked back in "the day" was 2-5%.  The weed in CO is grown by science and it really is on another level of potency.  Science doesn't f*ck around.

biggrin.gif I'll take the new days thanks! Knowing what you are getting and its effects is awesome. I prefer a cerebral high (no couch lock for me tongue.gif ) so knowing what strain you're buying is great. The potency is also great less smoking for the same effect! Just need to proceed slowly.
