Very new to EpicSki, love the enthusiasm and knowledge and this board, have spent most of the day reading nothing but this forum. I am looking for some advise on my DIN setting , but first some backstory on my skill level:
I have been skiing mountain resorts only for 3-4 years. Mainly groomed runs, some ungroomed as well. I injured my MCL and had to stop skiing for 2 years, MCL and meniscus. This is my 3rd knee injury ( two in basketball 1 skiing). Last year I had my DIN dialled all the way down to 5 and I ski'd fairly conservative, good speed, but only flat and groomed, NO JUMPS. I had no issue with prerelease or anything else even when going full speed down the groomed runs.
I took a look at some of my gear, and realized my boots were a size to big, I found a good deal on some Head AdaptEdge100 which were recommended to me by a reputable local bootfitter, they fit like a glove. When I took them in to get the bindings adjusted, they put the DIN up to 6, and I asked them to put them back to 5 which they did oblige. I can ski to whatever level I want , but in order to rebuild strength and skill, I am skiing very conservatively, FAST, but only on nice groomed runs, zero jumps. What is everyone's thoughts here? can i ski safely on DIN 5 ( no prerelease issues so far) or am I playing with fire by going to low.
I am 5'10 200 Lbs. boot size 27.5
I really appreciate any advice you guys can offer.
