Shipping skis in a soft case? Bad idea or ok?

Ive got two pairs of ski's I'll likely want to take on my trip to SB in late January, unless the forecast is for zero chance of snow, then id only take one.

I usually just check them, but thinking if im lugging two pairs, ill try shipping them.

I've got a high sierra double rolling bag that i like a lot. Could i ship FedEx ground with little worry? Or is that out of the question? I would of course try and pack some things around them.

Alternatively, i think one of the local shops has a double Sport Tube they "rent" for like $125, and i think that includes shipping out/back.

Use a box instead of a bag?  i think shippers prefer flat rectangular objects.

You can get 2 of the ski-shipping boxes and tape them together.

Not sure FedEx would ship a ski bag. Or if they did, no way they'd insure it or take responsibility if your skis were damaged. Just a minor point: You're likely to pay a max total of $50 for taking your skis baggage separately. They'll wrap your unbagged pair in heavy plastic, or you could invest $40 for a cheap single bag and pack lots of clothes around it. Or you could invest $150 in a double bag, another $25 on that for baggage, and you've got a double bag. So cheapest is $100 round trip, or maybe $140 if you buy a single bag. Or $200 for a double bag and round trip baggage.

By contrast, shipping them will run you roughly $120 minimum total each way, probably more, all lost money. If you pay for boxes that are big enough for the bindings, and packing, so you can get them insured, say $150 each way. Or if you "rent" a sport tube for $125, you still have shipping or baggage on top of that.

I appreciate the hassle factor, but seems like shipping is a lose-lose.

Not sure I follow all that? I already have a double bag....

Anyway, I've got a work trip to one place then fly directly from that work trip to a work ski meeting. Just didn't want to have to lug skis around everywhere. Not to mention trying to find a taxi they will all for in.

The double bag will work fine.   I ship my golf clubs Fed Ex Ground all the time for $40-50,  IL to FL or CO.

I print my return label at home and just drop them off at Fedex/Kinco's when I'm done.
