I primarily ski in the Eastern Sierras, backcountry only, only 15 days on a good year. I'm 5'9", 150lbs and an average skier who's been skiing for 20 years. I've been out of the sport until recently since I started snowkiting. I'm trying to put together an ultralight setup, basically to offset the weight of the snowkite, bar, and lines I skin in with. I just got some Scarpa Aliens. I'm looking at the Ski Trab Magico (84mm waist) BD Carbon Aspect (90mm), BD Carbon Convert (105mm). I'm basically unsure of the width of skis I should be looking at, everyone seems to be on wider skis then when I skied like 5 years ago. Also not sure if the superlight Aliens can 'handle' wide skis.
Snowkiting is a young sport, there's not much consensus on ski style. Twin tips would be nice but there's not much super light in that area. The only thing that is different about my snowkiting compared to regular backcountry is that I don't ski down steep faces (usually). The skis are basically to get me to remote alpine bowls/ridge lines.
Any advice is welcome. Thank you.
