Ultralight Skis to pair with Scarpa Aliens

Hi,

I primarily ski in the Eastern Sierras, backcountry only, only 15 days on a good year. I'm 5'9", 150lbs and an average skier who's been skiing for 20 years. I've been out of the sport until recently since I started snowkiting. I'm trying to put together an ultralight setup, basically to offset the weight of the snowkite, bar, and lines I skin in with. I just got some Scarpa Aliens. I'm looking at the Ski Trab Magico (84mm waist) BD Carbon Aspect (90mm), BD Carbon Convert (105mm). I'm basically unsure of the width of skis I should be looking at, everyone seems to be on wider skis then when I skied like 5 years ago. Also not sure if the superlight Aliens can 'handle' wide skis.

Snowkiting is a young sport, there's not much consensus on ski style. Twin tips would be nice but there's not much super light in that area. The only thing that is different about my snowkiting compared to regular backcountry is that I don't ski down steep faces (usually). The skis are basically to get me to remote alpine bowls/ridge lines.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

Skimo.com is a good site to check out light gear.

Guessing you would not be kiting in powder so not as much need for wide skis.

Cripple Creek Backcountry is dedicated to super light and skimo gear too.

Thank you for the sites.

I'm mainly wondering if the ultralight skimo Aliens can 'drive' a wide ski like 105mm waist, or if I should go skinnier...Anyone use Aliens?

^ Yes on the Alien 1.0 -- the cf upper cuff is crazy stiff and torsionally rigid, plus it wraps around the front too (unlike the cf on the Dynafit upper cuffs), and even the lower shell has an innner cf wrap.  But I don't know about the Alien "0.0" that is all plastic.

What skis to you pair with your alien 1.0's?

I'm wondering what is 'too wide/heavy' for them...

The widest/heaviest skis I use with race boots = Dynafit Denali, but only b/c I can't think of any reason to use a wider/heavier ski in the backcountry.

The Alien 1.0 is super rigid rearward and laterally b/c of all the cf -- probably more so than many so-called "beef" boots.

Forward flex is fairly stiff too.  Definitely not "progressive" though.

Thanks for the tip on the Denali, I was looking at those. I may lean toward the BD Carbon Aspect.
