Best Place to Get Instructor Recommendation?

I am wondering which subforum here is best to ask this question. I am particularly interested in finding an instructor in Steamboat in late December. I looked at the instructor list but only one guy in Steamboat, and apparently he is now in Massachusetts.

In general, how does one decide where to put one's posts?

Welcome to EpicSki, David!

It is confusing, where best to put a post at EpicSki. If you want the recommendation of other instructors--which will often get you the best result, since instructors tend to be quite aware of the skills, tendencies, and attributes of their peers--you may want to post your question in the Instruction section. That, itself, has become a bit hard to find, since it is now called, "Ski Training and Pro Forums." (You can click on that link.)

You are to be forgiven for being confused! But I suspect you'll find some good results over there. In the mean time, consider telling us a bit more about yourself--your skiing level, the type of skiing you prefer, your general athletic background both past and present, your goals, and any type of instructor whom you've found works best with you--any of these things can help match you to an instructor who will be great for you.

Since you're going to Steamboat at a very busy time of the season, do not delay in asking your question and in booking your instructor. It's likely that many of Steamboat's top instructors are already booked at that time.

I wish you a fantastic lesson, and a great skiing trip!

Best regards,

Bob

Welcome to EpicSki!  My observation is that if you put the name of the resort in the title as well as basic info such as ability level, it doesn't make too much difference which sub forum.  Especially if you "bump" the thread a couple times so that it shows up under New Posts more than once.  For example, if looking for a private for an intermediate teen then "Help finding instructor at Steamboat for teen intermediate" is a possibility.

Resorts, Conditions and Travel under Mountain/Resorts is another possible sub forum:

http://www.epicski.com/f/21/resorts-conditions-travel

Sometimes an EpicSki Ambassador can provide suggestions.  @Finndog is the Steamboat Ambassador.

As to your general question of where to start a thread, for any question that isn't directly related to gear, always fine to try General Skiing.

That would be greatly appreciated. My plan is to take a group on Sunday followed by a private later in the week. The group will be luck of the draw, but I imagine that they are all pretty good.

Pm's swapped

If possible do the group lesson Mon-wednesday.  much better likelihood of just a couple of others.

Good thought. I thought that, I also thought that taking a group on Sunday would a) tune us all up for the week ahead, and b) give us some cuts as we'll be using the ski school line all day. Thoughts on that?

If we wait till Monday what I'd probably do is put the family in groups and take a solo lesson on Monday.

You are coming up right after New Years day?  The crowds disappear that weekend so from Sunday on, it should be pretty quiet. good strategy though.   If we get a good dump, I'm taking you to some nice "doable" trees!

No, we are coming up right after Christmas. We arrive DIA Saturday, December 27th at around 11:00 am. Our skiing will be from Sunday the 28th through Friday January 2nd. We'll call it early on Friday in order to drive back to DIA during daylight hours. Hotel overnight near the airport and fly back east Saturday morning.

Will our time in Steamboat intersect at all?
