Long time no see. Thankfully, another semester of graduate school is over which means that I am heading West for some skiing. I booked a trip earlier this fall and have accommodations in PC from Dec. 14 to Dec. 25.
Here's my question: with the dearth of snow that has hit the 3 PC mountains and the fantastic early seasons that Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee have had, would I be crazy to drive up there and ski for 2-3 days? I've never made the drive but it looks like it will be about 5 hours including a restroom break. I would only go to these lengths because I don't want to waste the precious time I have out West on mountains that have little to nothing open.
I've already skied Snowbird pretty extensively and spent a day at Alta before it shut down for the season. I guess Brighton and Solitude are also options, but it looks like they have been suffering similar woes with lack of snow.
Of course, everything can change with a good storm or two between now and when I fly out from Pittsburgh. However, looking at forecasts, experts are saying that it will stay pretty much the same for the foreseeable future. Just wondering if there are any opinions or experience on the matter, especially the drive and if it is even feasible to get there somewhat easily during winter months. I will have an AWD on my rental car.
Cheers; hope everyone has (or is already having) a great season.
