I recently (year ago) started waxing my own skis after having gotten our own skis (vs renting them). Having to maintain four sets of skis and not having access to local ski shop it makes sense for me to do it myself. I might be on the right track but not having a mentor makes me sometimes wonder if I do things right.
One question I have is do I scrape enough? Below is the photo of our skis after being waxed and a half day skiing in 40 degrees Fahrenheit weather.
Are the white spots marks of concern? I.e. was there to much wax left on the ski? Or is that normal.
I use the standard process of dripping Hertel Super Hot Sauce via an iron on the skis. Trying to put just enough wax on the skis to cover the base thinly with wax via the iron. Letting it cool off and scraping it off. Finally buffing it with a nylon bristle brush.
This time I didn't put as much effort into it, meaning I stopped scraping when the scraper wasn't easily getting any more wax off. You could definitively see a coating of wax over the base after I was done.
