Going from 178s to 195 Question

So I currently ride Armada El Rey 178s as my all mountain go to ski. It was great in the park, prefect on the trails, and good enough in the trees, but now im looking for a powder specific ski that can supplement my El Rey's.

My biggest question is when I go from 178s to 195s is it REALLY going to be a big noticable difference?? I know I want to go bigger than 178 just for the flotation capability alone and I found a BEAUTIFUL pair of JJs at 195 for a sweet price (what it cost me to rent powder skis for a week in Colorado last year)

Oh BTW im 6'2ish 220-230lbs ish lol (lost about 10lbs lol)

Yes - 195 in JJs for sure

For your size - good. They will have quite a bit less effective edge then your El Ray's.

Really, at that size I would figure the edge would be more, but then again im not 100% knowledgeable about rockers and how they work.  Im like THEE least knowledgeable skiier (in terms of skis) out there, I can still rip it up in the trees and bomb some nice boulders in the woods.  I just can explain the technology of my skis, LOL

Seriously, buy the big ones.  Trust us!  I cringe thinking of you on little wee powder skis.  195 with that much tip/tail rocker will not feel big.

I've never skied any of the JJ series but if I did I would only look at the 195 AK JJ.  And I'm a pretty lazy easy going skier with a bad knee.

Total JONG hack here, you're better than me. I'm 5'11" 210 -205lbs depending on the day.

Only started skiing 4 years ago. Did the short ski, to the forehead thing...that all noobs are told to do.

At some point ( i think it was a demo), I skied a longer ski 180+ something, and for me it was so much better. I was more comfortable, felt more stable.

I now own a 190 Bibby Pro and a 187 Bonafide. Also have a 179 Line Prophet 90 i reserve for the Southeast. (i have no reason to own 3 skis, but i do, im a gear whore)

Dude if youre already skiing the park, trees, etc on a 178, i think going up to what your talking about will change your life.

I think I may have already mentioned this too you in a previous thread but my 190cm powder skis ( Elan Boomerangs) have approximately 200mm LESS running edge than my 14 year olds traditionally cambered 170cm powder skis.
I see that you've dropped about 10lbs but those ElRays are still way too small for you:eek

I'm 6'3" but only 220lbs and would be more than happy to have 195cm skis but would mean I would have too buy a bigger bag:rolleyes

I originally got the 178s as an all mountain/park ski.  This makes me feel a little silly considering Ive been skiing for over 20yrs, LOL.

Yea, I used to be a park rat until I discovered the wonderful natural park set in the trees deep off of the trails.  It so much more fun making your own park from what nature gives you, oh and the fresh powder doesnt hurt either ;)

So funny....we should hang out and ski as your story sounds pretty much like my story (we are both jong hacks) and we are the same size.  If you have a 315-320 bsl you could try out my skis and vica versa.

And ya, OP, take a walk on the dark side.
