Factory tune on Bonafides?

Picked up some Bonafides this summer for a sweet price
About to have them mounted up.
Should the factory tune be ok or should I have the shop do something to them other than a wax ?

I would just try out the factory tune and see how you like it.  I believe Blizzard's run a 1 degree base and 3 degree edge.  They should be pretty responsive for you out of the box.

So no need to detune the tips or anything?

If you want to ask about detuning, you probably should...

The only thing I use to detune my tips and tails is a medium gummy stone.  I would just try them out first to see how they perform.  If they feel grabby, you could do a mild detune.  I'm not a fan of using a files to detune.

No detuning.

But, never assume the "factory tune" is what you want. There have been tons of threads discussing the fact that the is no such thing as a factory tune, that some factory tunes are all over the map not just from pair to pair, but along one ski. If you don't know what YOUR preference is, take them into a local shop you trust and tell them you want a 1/1 or a 1/2. Adjust from there after you try them.

I have always understood that shaped skis that are meant to carve should not be detuned except before the contact point on the shovel, and after the contact point on the tail. The whole running length is meant to be engaged in the carve unless you wish to "skarve" or skid altogether.

I don't even think it's necessary to detune before or after the contact point. Sharp stem to stern is how we ride em.

How you rid'em. Others' mileage can vary.

THE FACTORY TUNE ON BONAFIDE IS A 1/3.

Ski 'em as is! And then decide if they need any work, if needed  would be too much base bevel. NO detuning needed, the tip and tail are off the snow until you roll them on edge.

Thumbs Up

I skied on a new pair and they skied fine  (if you like the ski) I didn't care for 'em. In fact they were a new pair of my buddies and he took my Mojo '94's (also tuned 1/3)  and asked if I could tune his BonafIeds like my MOJO's. I had to break the news to him...................THEY WERE TUNED THE SAME!

THAT'S WHEN HE SENT THEM HOME WITH ME AND CHECKED THE GEOMETRY....................................YUP 1/3!

He said my Mojo's 94's were more confidence inspiring
