Have a possible opportunity to tag along with a group heading to Park City in January for the Sundance Film Festival. Don't give a rip about the Festival, but while my group is working, I'm hoping to hit the slopes. Have heard anecdotally that, while the snow conditions may be good, it's actually a really lousy time to try to ski any of the areas around and including PC due to the chaos/crowds associated with the Film Festival along with things like our hotel's rates are basically twice what they normally charge per night during the ski season, can't get into any of the restaurants and the slopes are packed with folks that can't ski. Any one had some experience with this?

I was on PCMR every day during the last Sundance. The runs are perhaps less crowded than what would normally be the case, and some celebrity sightings are possible. Traffic can be really horrid depending on the time of day. Getting to Old Town is awful, and even the main arterials like the road in front of the High School can clog up when a movie showing takes place there. If you have a paid place to stay and don't have to work the festival, I'd absolutely be on the hill. They add more buses and runs to the free bus system during Sundance, so depending on where you are staying and where you are skiing, you might have good luck with transportation. Or not. Contact the hotel in advance to ask about the best options.
