Head i-Supershape Rally Size Recommendations

Hi Guys- I am 42 y/o, and expert skier although don't get on the slopes as much as I did back in the day being married with kids and not living in the mountains.  Picked up a brand new pair of 177 cm 2013/14 Rallys and bindings on eBay the other day on an impulse bid at a great price of $599.

At 5'11 and 185 I seem to be on the bottom end of the recommended sizing for 177 and the high end for 170's.  Read lots of great reviews on the Rallys and am pumped to ski them but wondering if the size is too long?  Have a bit of buyers remorse but not sure if its warranted.  As an average sized dude just wondering if these are better suited for the bigger guys but I've always been comfortable on longer skis (thinking back on the power 8 210 Salomon 1S's that were my ski of choice in my early 20's).

Anyone out there with Rallys of similar size that could give me their input?

Given what you said about yourself, the 177s will be great, especially as an all around on-piste ski.

If you were going for a short turn specialty ski in a multi-ski quiver, maybe the 170s, but only maybe.......

Thanks for the feedback.  177 seems small but being the largest in the line it got me wondering...

It is small compared to back in the day. No worries you'll love those skis. There quick little buggers. I'm your size and ski the Head tt80 @ 174cm. Skis like to lay down trenches and aren't afraid to go fast.

Cool, thanks.  Being the longest in the line it had me wondering, but in general it does seem small.

Head carvers are designed to run short; you can get away with a 177 instead of the 170 because it's the Rally. Don't try this at home with the Titan...

No need for buyer's remorse.  The 177 is fine, and a terrific ski to boot.  Go ski them and enjoy.

Yes to all the above.  The manufacturers' sizing charts always give me funny results.  I've not been on the Rally, but I'm 150/5'7", and found the 170 was the right length for me in the Titan, another ski in that line.  I can't imagine you'd want to be on the 170 Rally.

My experience makes me tend to agree with this, based on a couple short jaunts on the Magnum and Titan (have not been on the Rally).

I think beyond would tell you that at 5' 11" 185lbs you are not far from median size for American men. The Rally comes in the following lengths: 149/156/163/170/177

Draw your own conclusions. Not saying the 177 is too long for you. And certainly not saying you should be on the 163. (You probably shouldn't.) Often, as some of our pros here say, there are two sizes that are good candidates ... just different. I am saying that we tend to operate in a ski-it-long bubble here on Epic, and whenever you ask a question about length, you are going to get answers that tend to the long side. If you already know that's how you lean, too, great. If you don't know that, it's worth taking that tendency into account.

In any case, Phil did a full review and addressed a bunch of stuff in this thread. Google is your friend.

Is length 163 cm i.Rally good choice for me?

I'm male skier, my measures are 172 cm (5'.77") and 66 kg (145,5 pounds)

I'm your size and would ski the 170.

Hi Guys, having been in doubts to post this question, but can't find a better option to seek some insight.

I've been skiing an all-mountain ski with 88 under foot in 179 cm this season and I keep getting some concerns that it's too much of a ski for me. This is my third season, but perhaps the first real one as I am going to make 20 days skiing in total this year when during the first two seasons it had been just around 5 days. The feeling I get with these skis is that they are really stable (which I like) but it's hard for me to make them run in quick turns. This may be expected as their turn radius is 18m. I am going to pick a groomers focused pair of skies during the off season and thinking primarily about Rally 16 or 17. The question is about the size. I am 190 lb 6' and I see that people here usually recommend 177 for similar cases. Since my overall skiing experience is really slim, I haven't had a chance to try/demo skis in general and Rally or any other narrow ski in particular - checked several demo stores in Vermont but none of them carried neither Rally nor similar carvers.

Sorry for the long intro. Here my question comes. Since I am getting this feeling that my current ski in its size can be too much for me, can Rally be lighter and easier to drive in short turns so much that 177 will be the right feet?

Apologize for the cumbersome question. Thanks in advance.
