Rossignol Experience 98 Stiffness

Thread Starter

I recently picked up a pair of Rossignol E98's at 180CM. After comparing the flex vs my others skis I am concerned they might be a little too much ski for my height/weight.

Last year I got a pair of RTM84's at 171cm and it was a great ski for the smaller mountains on the East. I really like the skis, but I felt they were too short for big mountain cruising especially in spring skiing conditions. I wanted a second skis which I could crank on the groomers at the larger mountains, but also use in variable snow conditions. Based on feedback it seemed this was a perfect match for the E98. Even though I used to race on longer GS skis I am concerned that at 5'8 150lbs these E98's might be too stiff. Should I look at another all mountain such as the Nordica hell and back which has a softer flex?

Thanks!

I demoed some E98's on an icy/hard day (cant recall if 180 or 188) and returned them after one, no so fun, run.  If I could have returned them mid run I would have.  They may have hooked up with more edge angle or speed but I never had enough confidence that they would to really give them a go.   They were either too stiff for me or had a bad tune or both.  I've seen bigger guys on them who carved well so YMMV.

I'm about 170lbs and usually ski pretty stiff skis.

E98 in 180 length is a ton of ski at your size.  Are you a ton of skier?  If so, you'll be fine.

If not, then you might have over-bought both in terms of length and compliance.

I am 6'4. 235 and skied 180's last year.  I never once felt the need to go longer.

I skied on the 180 E98 for a season, loved them.  I wouldn't have wanted to go longer.  I was about 170 lbs and 5'10" at the time.  You might like the E88 better.  It's not as stiff and is actually way better in moguls and powder than the E98.

I have the E98 in 180 length and they are stiff but I consider myself a charger, and I love them.  But I'm also skiing them at 6'2", 190lbs.  I'll defer to the experts here, but I'm thinking at 150lbs you better be a serious Bode wannabe, or else you might be in for a rough ride.  I suspect something more like the E88 or a softer 100mm (Hell and Back or maybe a Supernatural 100?) is probably better for you.
