Robin and I and our ski club, The Mogul Meisters, visited Whitefish last winter. It was cold as heck and we had a great time. We got there on a Saturday afternoon and were chilling in our condo room at the Kandahar Lodge when one of our friends burst in dressed for skiing. " Get your stuff on we're gonna ski in the torchlight parade!" so 5 of us froze our asses off in the dark at at least 10 below zero and started the week off with a couple extra runs. It got a little warmer, but not much. Temps never really climbed past single digits all week though they mostly stayed in positive territory.
We did luck out with snow though. No huge dumps but 2 - 5" every day and one night we got a good 8". We skied mostly trees and Whitefish is a tree skiers paradise with nicely angled tree skiing off every aspect of the mountain. There isn't much there steep enough to really scare a good skier, but there is plenty of steep and steepish skiing along with a lot of really nice intermediate cruising.
Loved The Kandahar! Great comfy lobby with big fireplace and a nice little bar. Great food you can order and eat by the fire as well. We took the free shuttle into town for dinner and bar hopping a few nights as well. All in all a great week and we will be back...in fact, we went back in September for a week of hiking in Glacier National Park and mountain biking on the Whitefish Trails just outside of town.
