Don't kid yourself. She'll be off chasing Stig, the new, young ski patroller from Stockholm.

Great performance , tecnica design is outstanding
The Cyclic is now in its 4th season with the only change being the top sheet graphics each year. No reason to change this ski, it is nearly flawless. Wider tip with rocker, camber, and tail rocker...
Nord-Dobe-Spitfire Pro EDT. GOD-HELL !! This is another ONE. Smooth. Damp. Grip. NO Chatter -At All. Warp-Drive. Nice transition from slip to grip. BIG SWEET SPOT. These were also the...
This is my home resort so I admit, I'm biased. But, I have been skiing seriously at Sunrise since 2009. It's located in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. The main towns in the area are...
The mountain was almost lost a few years back, but the rally was made and it seems on solid ground. A very relaxed atmosphere and a nice lodge. Excellent crowded weekend escape from Sunday...

2015 Mid-Atlantic Gathering - Blue Knob - Feb, 6 - 8 - Page 5
Gear mentioned in this thread:
Long term forecast has cold temps and 60% chance of precip Thursday, 50% chance of precip Friday with a low of 5 degrees Saturday morning and a high of 27 Friday. That's cold enough for snow to freeze to dry bases. Don't forget to wax folks. Will check back before making the call on what wax. I might wait on the lesson for the girl and set it up for afternoon instead of morning if it really is that cold in town. It will be even colder on the mountain. Her first lesson ever was there on a similar frigid day. She lasted 20 minutes of a half day lesson then sat inside for the rest of the day. She didn't go to the mountains with me again for three years after that. The boys will LOVE it though. Get to use the full face coverage and stuff hahahaha..
We're loaded for bear where cold weather is concerned, but I've read the Gospel According To Tony Crocker enough to know that weather forecasts beyond a week out are pretty speculative. But, I'll take cold over rain any day!
One additional note for those who haven't previously been to Blue Knob: the wind can really whip at the top of the mountain, and so wind chill can be a serious issue if you ride the lifts all the way up. (In my experience, it usually isn't bad on the lower mountain, so I guess that's more incentive to just keep doing laps through the expert terrain!)
@ohioskier Donegal is the way to go. Somerset is further away and there are still small shops, beer distributors and places to eat in Donegal to keep you supplied for a couple of days.
Holiday Inn Express and Days Inn are the two chain hotels. Holiday Inn is new and likely nicer.
Your plan to ski both Springs and Hidden Valley sounds good. You can ski the whole of HV in about 2 hours or less, Springs will take more like 3 hours. Won't be any issue with crowds at either place during the middle of the week. I'm an instructor at Springs and I avoid it on the weekend if I can when I'm not working. Lines can get very long, especially on Saturdays.
Shoot me a PM if you need any recommendations on what to ski at either place.
Just back from my second day this week at BK and everything open except Lower Shortway which appears to have been groomed! I’ve never seen Lower Shorway groomed. Now perhaps it was just a little ways down to before Short Cut but I saw the corduroy tracks begin at the rope on Deer Run and disappear over the horizon. I didn’t ski East Wall Glade because I could see that the mid point headwall was already pretty scraped off. I skied all the rest of the glades except Ditch. The lower angled glades had good cover and even some untracked at the edges. Ditch was closed the first time I went by and me and daughter blew right by as I noticed the rope was down on the second pass. Extrovert was good for the most part except the downhill sides of some of the machine made snow whales, icy. Bumps were just beginning to grow on skier’s right. Stem was groomed out and a fun snaky cruise with the lower field perfect for huge GS turns. Deer Run was ungroomed virgin machine made on skier’s left, very icy, but softer small bumps on skier’s right. They were blowing snow on the run out on the bottom. All the powder I skied up on Expressway was now groomed smooth, High Hopes too. 66 had good cover and opened later in the day but I did not ski it.
Talking to an employee there and rumor is that the snowmaking will end for the season this week.
Still have my red ribbon. I tend to put it on the back of my helmet. Definitely makes it easier to spot folks.
I decided to go check out the Blue Knob Events Calender to see if I saw anything that might preempt NASTAR. This looks like we might not get to ski gates that weekend..
2015 Scheduled Events
• 24th BAWJAW @ Clubhouse Bar & Grill 10p-1a
• 31st- Kareoke/DJ @ Clubhouse Bar & Grill 10p-1a
• 7th- Washington Slept Here @ Clubhouse Bar & Grill 10a-1a
• 7th-8th: PENN State Races and Banquet @ Conference Center TBD
They had something like that running a couple years ago and it didn't go down Rt 66 where NASTAR runs but they scrapped NASTAR anyway simply because they lacked resources to do both along with the traffic around the course on the run next to 66 with spectators and stuff..
I hope this is correct. Two years ago they had everything roped off right down the middle of Expressway for a USSA race. . It made it difficult for Chance and me to hike across to Mambo back when he couldn't ski Jack Rabbit. Deer run would have a lot less impact on the other skiers, but it would also be a shorter course.
Umm ya, I won't be putting the girl in a lesson first thing Saturday morning. I'll be skiing on sharp skinny skis while they stay inside and play video games and drink hot chocolate until lunch time.
Weather Bell Analytics has been predicting very low temps for that period and that area for the last week. Their prediction is 10-15 days of very cold weather.
I will be skiing Friday and Saturday.
Sounds like Friday will provide you with a special "warm" welcome, then!
Speaking of the cold and kids.... Went skiing with my 9yo this past Sunday, probably 10 hours on the slopes. Tuesday night, when he was getting ready for bed, I noticed he was STILL wearing the same long john top he'd been wearing since Sunday morning. Three days straight, two of which to school. LOL. My wife: "What is it with boys?!?"
Some stoke from previous "Knobbage"...

Have fun at Blue Knob, my friends!
I'll be at Blue Mountain this Thursday and Friday for a PARA super-G camp. It'll be fun to teach a bunch of 13-15 year olds the finer points of skiing fast. I hope I can forerun the race course on Friday: got the long(ish) boards all ready to go (Fischer RC4 GS skis, 193cm - about right for the kind of course set we'll do).
Saturday and Sunday I'll be at Liberty Mountain. My team hosts a GS there on Sunday.
Take many pictures, folks!
How about we set meeting times and places? Saturday and Sunday morning how about 9 to 9:15 at the top of the lifts then again at 10:15 to 10:30 same place for late arrivals. Tie red or yellow ribbons on poles or helmets for easy ID. For those arriving on Friday best yinz guys set the time.
Will the Rt. 66 family house host a free lunch on Saturday? In the past housemates brought hot dogs and kraut, pork or ham BBQ, chips, salads, cookies, whatever and laid a spread for all. Nothing expensive, just filling. Maybe another meet time can be 1:00 at the family house?
Also, for all those staying on the mountain better bring all your groceries and imbibements with you as there are no stores on the mountain and remember you cannot buy wine and beer in supermarkets in PA, 2 six packs max at bars or restaurants that sell take out beer, cases must be bought at beer distributors. Wine and liquor must be purchase at a State Store. There are six pack shops around too but I know of none in the area. There is a full service bar on the mountain and at the condos.
Claysburg is the closest town that would have all the services you need if you want to wait to buy supplies on arrival. For those coming from the south on I 99 continue north to exit 15 then travel north on Dunnings Highway to Claysburg. You can get to Blue Knob from Claysburg via Ski Gap Rd. Go west on Ski Gap. I think there is a traffic light at the intersection of Dunning and Ski Gap and a Commonwealth Bank too. Follow Ski Gap to Left Hand Gap Rd which will be the left fork in the road at a small cluster of houses then less than a half mile look for Overland Pass Rd on the left. Overland will take you right to Blue Knob Condos where you will also find Little Valley Rd. to W.Valley Point Ln. where the family house is located. If you continue on Overland it will take you right to the lodge and parking lot at the top of the mountain.
If you miss Overland you can continue to the end of Left Hand Gap the turn left at the T intersection and continue to the ski area pass by the lodge and continue down the mountain by the tubing hill to the entrance to the condo complex.
