Not to mention Pebble Creek near Pocatello.

Leaving Whitefish early isn't really an option as my wife needs to fly out of FCA on the designated date.  I'm already getting some funny looks from her as she goes back to work and I get to dawdle on the drive home. If it were up to me I'd stop at half a dozen places and take another week. I chose Snowbasin because I'm scouting for the 2015 / 2016 season when I should have another 6 week opportunity.

Plus he's already reserved the house here. He could take a run down to Missoula, though, one day. It's tough, but doable. Although Fernie is closer, and given the choice, that makes more sense.

Yes, with a month in Whitefish, it's worth checking out Fernie, and maybe Castle too.

You can ski Fernie by day tripping from Whitefish but it's a lot nicer to at least overnight and then you can add Castle if the conditions are good.  North of the border deciding which area to ski is tough as there are lot of nice hills within range.

Lots of options for sure...too bad I don't have unlimited dollars to go with them.

The Whitefish rental and season pass were both very reasonable and they're both paid for!  Unless Big Mountain has a big meltdown I will be happy working my way through the 3000 plus acres. The real key for my enjoyment is going to be how much I can improve my skiing this year. By most standards Whitefish is not super challenging but it offers as much (or more) as I can handle even if I progress to a new level.

I also like the idea of being in one place for a month and not being rushed into vacation mode - take the time to work on drills, meet some different people. I've really only ever skied with my wife and she and I are roughly equal in ability. I'd love to ski with some folks that I have trouble keeping up with.

Just 2 planned trips.

We are house/dog sitting in Sunape, NH 12/25 - 1/1 and will ski wherever the snow is best within an hour's drive of there.

Telluride! Feb 7-14.

March 20 - 25 Northern Vt possibly Eastern Townships...torn between skiing with bears at NE Gathering or going on a drive up trip with my ski club friends.

Otherwise we may ski in Austria for a week or we may head out to Utah for a long weekend and I plan to ski a lot all over VT and possibly Berkshires and Catskills when they get some good dumps.

I also plan to do some backcountry tours in VT and NH.

Probably ski about 30 days
