Family w young kids - Deer Valley or Park City Mountain Resort ? [beginners, flying from TX]

Hello folks

Regarding kids age 10 (boy) and 8 (girl), with spouse also, none of which have any extensive ski experience, we would like to take a ski (or maybe snowboard) trip and take some beginner level lessons and mess around on the slopes without killing ourselves.

Deer Valley and Park City both have been recommended, so my next question is which of the two is probably the more kid/family friendly ?   Budget obviously is also a factor, but primarily the family friendliness factor is first.

Flying into SLC from DFW (Dallas).

Ideally we remain at or close to the resort for the entire time and don't need to drive 50 miles to get something to eat.

Thank You !

:)

I actually think both would work equally well for your purposes.  However, if you are interested in snowboarding, then it needs to be PCMR because Deer Valley is skiers only.  My personal preference of the two is Deer Valley.  But that is just a personal preference. It's a beautiful resort and the best grooming I have ever encountered.  It's a 1st class experience for sure.

Have you looked at a map of Parley's Canyon?  Deer Valley and PCMR are very close together.  Also relatively close to the SLC airport.

What dates are you thinking about?  Where has your family skied before?

Another place to consider that is easier on the budget, assuming you are willing to eat in most nights, is Solitude.  That's in Big Cottonwood Canyon, even closer to the airport than PCMR.  But unlike Park City, there isn't a town in BCC.

Take a look at these threads.  Then come back and ask more questions.  Every family situation is unique so your questions will be a bit different from other parents.
