Pbbly a stupid question, but would it be worthwhile to go to Dallas for 4 hours starting at 9pm  during our 1 night layover (morning flight departs DFW 9AM)??

Gracias.

You could spend a couple hours in the West End (more upscale yuppie type night life) or Deep Ellum (More punk/grunge/live music type night life).

Tks!  My son, 16, with me, anything more up his alley??

Also, could we hire a cab for 3-4 hours for $50?

Not really of the options mentioned.  Pretty sure you have to be at last 18 to get in to any of the Deep Ellum or Dallas Alley/West End clubs there, most over 21.

You should probably instead try to get tickets to a Stars or Mavericks game ow whatever they have going on at the arena and do that.  Those are always a blast but it would start before 9 pm so I don't know about that.

You could also go grab dinner at Reunion Tower.  It's a revolving restaurant at the top of this building..

Don't know, haven't been there in about 15 years.  But, with Uber and other competitors you can probably find affordable transportation most places out that way.
