After posting up my question about which bindings to mount on my new Bonafides in this thread - http://www.epicski.com/t/120023/better-binding-for-blizzard-bonafide-sth-vs-look-pivot - and then continuing to search/read threads on this board, I've been steered toward the Salomon STH2 WTR13 (man, that makes Harley model nomenclature look easy) and the Tyrolia Attack series bindings. @Philpug, and a host of others appear to have a wealth of knowledge about the pros and cons of all these different models; so thanks to all for sharing so generously.
From the other thread:
I'm 160lbs, advanced/expert (III+), mostly in bounds, some trees, some bumps, some pow. Like steeps, cruisers, big gs turns and short tight turns. I'm an old guy (>50). DIN 7/8 (I ask for 8 when I rent)
Looking for bindings for my new pair of Bonafides 2014 model - 180cm, 98mm waist.
1. Have the Salomons changed from 2014 to 2015 - some shops are advertising the new 2015s; other 2014s. I don't really care about color much, although green would definitely serve to make my orangey Bonafides a bit more gaudy. Which is good.
2. I always like trying new stuff as long as it's been a bit proven out - which is where the Tyrolias seem to be (at least to me). My first pair of new bindings ever (right after cables) was a pair of Tyrolias, so I do know the brand - but sure haven't seen much of them for the last, oh, 20 years or so.
3. I don't do any hiking/skinning, so am I looking at the wrong binding with the WTR-type bindings?
Anyway, having only demo'd skis for the last 15 years or so, I find the array of choices pretty daunting. Thanks for your input!
