non US resort for xmas? [family trip to Canada, or maybe Europe]

Thanks to slow green card processing, it looks like we might need to meet up with my husband outside the US for Xmas.  I'm thinking we can at least take advantage and combine it with a nice ski holiday.  Any suggestions where we're going to get good snow?  He'll be flying in from the UK and we're on the East Coast.  We're solid intermediate skiers and night life is not an issue, but a nice place to stay with a spa would be nice ... also something fun for our teenage daughter?

Just to be clear, are you looking for suggestions for skiing in Europe?  If so, your thread can be moved to the International Zone.  Have you looked around there?

Could be Europe although I was thinking Canada possibly - most important is not in the US and good snow early in the season.

Okay.  Then might as well keep the thread here.

Might get some ideas from this thread, although it's geared for more adventurous skiers.

Tremblant will certainly have plenty open for intermediates by Christmas but of course it will be pretty crowded.  Might be worth considering going farther north to the places near Québec City.

I think the first place to start would be to compare the cost/convenience of flights for all three of you. Your husband should be able to get fairly cheap budget flights to Geneva or Zurich, so depending on the costs of your flights, it could be cheaper to ski the Alps. It really comes down to how close you are to a hub and how much it would cost you to get to various parts of Canada compared to Zurich or Geneva.

If you do choose Europe, there are a number of resorts that are worth looking at. You'd probably want to choose something a bit lesser known in order to avoid crowds as much as possible. I would avoid the French resorts since everyone and his uncle from Britain, France, and the Benelux countries tend to go there.

Quebec City if you want to keep travel costs down or maybe Panorama in BC if you like the idea of a family-friendly and spa-friendly resort in western Canada with likely moderate holiday crowds: http://www.panoramaresort.com/top-ten-reasons/
