One camp should be yes perhaps you look at all the theory and believe it should do nothing for you.
The other mindset is to keep an open mind, try things, maybe it'll will work for you.
As always, STP has it discounted, and I assume the OP was looking at STP to begin with. So it's not $60, it's like $15-$20 after you apply your coupons.
Are they medical level of compression or that fancy CEP product? no. But things aren't black and white, only a Sith deals in absolutes...
Do a cost benefit analysis, if it gives you 1 (better) day of skiing on your day3s; given all the overhead costs; the $15 cost to get a better day3 or beyond of skiing it is worth it to me to try out. As i mentioned above, if you are a superstar and feel no fatigue then you don't need any advice on socks anyway.
The other thing is realize even though people write things as commandments of what others should do; read between the lines that they are only saying what they do, it's just an opinion don't take it personally.
I tend to just write more clearly as what I do, and tend to give less advice on what someone else should do unless explicitly answering a question.
