Aspen or Jackson Hole - Which One is Better?

Thread Starter

Powder Mag is doing an online contest.

Aspen is up against Jackson Hole.  The voting ends tonight and thus far it's pretty tight.

You probably have little trouble figuring out which one I voted for (although I love Aspen).

Both are great.

Better Town: Aspen

Better Groomers for Intermediates: Aspen

Better Scenery: Jackson Hole

Better Steeps; Jackson Hole

Better Weather: Aspen

Biggest Dumps: Jackson Hole

Less Crowds: Aspen, JH is getting busy

Better Lifts: Aspen

Overall Winner: Aspen

Silly contest. Jackson, hands down. Love skiing Ajax at Aspen, but it isn't Jackson Hole.

I would love to gather data to help answer this question. Honestly I've wanted to visit Aspen more often and for more decades than I've wanted to go to Jackson. But I'm going to JH this year. Next year it will have to be Aspen. Or Taos. Or maybe the PNW. Never mind.

I've had the good fortune to ski Aspen several times...  I have yet to visit Jackson Hole, an unfortunate gap in my ski resume that I will be rectifying during the 2015 Gathering.

I will be happy to report back with my findings.  :cool

I'm gonna vote for Aspen because Jackson doesn't need any more people coming there because it won something in a ski mag. Aspen's beyond redemption.

Go to JH with the boys and Aspen with my wife, respectively.  Everybody is happy.

The older I get the more I like things that are beyond redemption because I relate to them more.

I have no doubt that the Bear quoted above chose his screen name carefully.  ;)

Uh Oh!

We have one town of our beloved @Bob Barnes matched up against another beloved Bob @Bob Peters

What's a Bear to do?

Well, there is a certain appeal to a ski town with this kind of bar action.

Last gathering @jgiddyup and I were profoundly unimpressed. No draft beer? Now the Wort Hotel? That's a good bar.

And this time I have to finally make it to the Stagecoach.

Go on sunday

For resort skiing - Aspen (inclusive of Snowmass/Highlands)

For overall setting/ town ambiance - Jackson

Hoping to change my mind on the skiing part if I make it to the Gathering

Aspen who?

Wow tough call!  While I think I like Aspen very slightly better snow conditions being equal, Jackson for the moment is significantly more affordable at least for the lifts lodging part so I'll give a slight edge to Jackson.

Jackson also gets more snow on average and I like more snow.

The below pic is of my car on the morning of Michel & I's departure morning from Aspen last season.  It was awesome, but that kind of picture happens more at Jackson:cool

For anyone who is wondering, Aspen beat out Jackson in the Round 1 voting.  Will go up against Sun Valley on Oct. 28.  Except for the Championship, voting is over 12 hours on a weekday.  No Facebook required.

My first time at JH was last winter.  Going to check out Aspen mountains in March.  The MCP definitely makes it easier to pick which bucket list place to visit next.

It is like asking which is better an apple or an orange. Sure some people will like one more but it is a silly question. Best answer is decide for yourself by eventually going to both.

Having been to both I would pick JH especially for the terrain.

I like drinking orange juice, but I like eating apples more than oranges...  nothing to peel, no mess, just munch.  :)  :duck:

So you do not know which one you like better? One if it is juiced but the other crunchy? I like apple sauce and can't decide if I like that more then an orange Popsicle.

This is Epicski… could you dumb it down a little bit for us?

Aspen is great but I don't see how it can touch Jackson Hole.

I like both but sure will dumb it down.

Aspen has more skiable acres, comparable snow, comparable steeps. I think both areas compare to each other except for the towns, Jackson though filled with the filthy rich Aspen wins that fight hands down. Aspen obviously has the better tourist nightlife and again I am not sure that is a good thing. I really do not think that rating ski areas like these is in anyway possible. If you have not been to either and can afford a week at either you would have a good time at either. They are both world class mountains that are a lot of fun to ski.
