To me touring is more about quality than quantity, and while it may be physically exhausting, I find a day in the bc kind of re-charges my batteries,
FWIW, people who sight multiple incidents of getting caught as experience scare me. Getting caught IMO means there was some catastrophic break-down in safety protocols;

I've not spent much time in the backcountry (some FOBP training and a few Berthoud outings) but I'm safety obsessive (ask my rock climbing partners) and mostly seek out the bc for the solitude, views, and snow quality on mellow slopes.
