It been on my bucket-list to make this gathering for a few years. I have to do some serious negotiation with my wife as I'll be away the previous weekend. Would love to have a house share. Jimmy and JohnL are always great to ski with and friends from past western Gatherings.

"ddanks and hopefully daughter" is now: ddanks, definitely daughter, and probably daughter's best friend

I'm happy to have one or more of the kids in a sleeping bag, depending on bunk beds, futons, etc.

Looks like we'll need to hear back on what the upper limit if the upper limit for the families with kids house on Rt 66 really is.  Looks like we have about 14-15 solid committed but 7-8 of those could be floor rats if necessary.

Tranquility House (6-7 adults + 7-8 kids):

NJskier164 available, maybe plus wife

MarzNC

kitchener, my ski buddy cousin, +4 kids

crgildart +2 kids

ddanks, +1 or 2 kids

Mountaintop Chalet:

LHC, friends and family

skidding +1, either date works as of now, interested to likely

Living Proof - Interested, would like to stay over Saturday night.

levy1 + 1(if we go option 2 dates)

If Tanquility can't handle more than 12 including the kids we may need to just bail to a bigger house for everyone together that holds at least a dozen adults.  I really kind of need beginner trail access though or I'll have to drive to the top lodge with my daughter. That was the main appeal of the Rt 66 house to me.  Who knows though, the girl may be able to ski jack rabbit by February but she can't right now.

Looks like about 20 total at this point not including day trippers.

What a fun problem to have . . . too many families to fit in one house, even a bigger one.  Updated ddanks info under Option 1 for Feb. 7-8.

Could well be their crowd limit has to do with beds and how many they sleep.  Since we're looking at 7 adults with NJSkier's wife, I'd emphasize that with the property owner -- I'd suspect a $625 per night property at a mid-PA regional ski mountain doesn't see occupancy every weekend of the ski season, and they'll be happy to get our "check."     Sounds like these roughing-it kids are going to have a ball.  We'd better bring ear plugs.

You might be surprised about the "every weekend" thought...which is why I checked into availability. If you take a look at their website, you can see they can do a total of 14, which includes the sofa bed and two chair beds in the living room, and then a separate extra room which is actually off the hallway leading to the owners quarters upstairs. There really isn't much extra room...trust me, I was there 2 years ago and know the layout.

I have already let MarzNC know that if there is a need for more room for kids, and she wanted to take the room with the queen, my wife and I can bow out of this and either find space at the "other house" if it's available, or just find alternate accommodations. I'm sure this will all work out in a couple of weeks.

As you say, I'm sure this will all work out in a couple weeks.  As you know the layout, is there floor space in the bedrooms (or in the living room) for kids in sleeping bags?

I was planning on checking into the tradition old school lodging JimK found for us in the past. Looks like Mr.Gildart's better option is to move into the family house and if my family does stay the night (they usually don't) it'll be cool cause my youngest will be 18 and my oldest is 24. Neither will commit until about an hour before the event. @DSloan has brought her daughter in the past, she should be 3 now but she has yet to chime in here. I'll try to text her and hubby and bro-in law to see if that entourage  is planning on attending but my hunch is that it is still too early to commit. I'll shout out @MephitBlue and @ggnagy to see if they check in. There are others from DCSki.com and I'll contact them also.

How about we wrap up the polling through the list marznc started by the end of the month to give a little more time for folks to chime in but it looks like there a strong push for Feb. 7-8. I'll make the official announcement on Nov. 1

Just an administrative update on marznc's list ("kitchener, my ski buddy cousin, and 4 offspring between the two of us, and maybe a wife or two - Definite")

Abridge that to: kitchener, my ski buddy cousin, and 4 offspring between the two of us, Definite

The War Department won't be joining us (one's back in school and looking forward to a quiet house, and the other doesn't ski).

Looks like we're good without much need for floor dwellers unless we opt to consolidate the other cool kids instead of having two separate locations.  We should know in a few days what the story with the others is but it is really looking like most, if not all will be day trippers.  There is also the base lodge condo option for any smaller group that opts to stay on site but doesn't have enough mass to justify booking a whole ski house.

There is a house that has two sections, so 12 or 24 total occupancy.  I am going to try to contact them for more info.

Ya, Ski The Knob is probably high enough up that cutting over to the Mambo green run would be easier than it was from mountaintop was..

This also looks like it fits us all at present.. or is that the Tranquil House just re listed??

Nope, that's not Tranquil.  I know there i another house along Rt.66.

Actually, that doesn't look bad at all.  There is also the Cedar Haus, but it's a little more expensive (albeit a little more lux).

Well, this is certainly a good thing that planning is taking place this early.  When I started working on the second house 2 years ago, it was late in the game an there were not as many options.

I think if Nov 1 is a bit early for a deadline, maybe we could push it out to Nov 7th.  I know LHC is reaching out to some people from past GTGs

The house that has two units is booked for that weekend for one of the units, so unfortunately it's not an option.

Well, if someone in the above discussion has the resources to book this one or Tranquil I can send a check or PayPal for an agreed amount of the crgildart family share of that cost.  I guess if we miss the boat on the other options for the weekend before we can look again at the weekend after Pres Day.  Late February in those parts can be pretty wide open as people are already cleaning their bikes and golf clubs after President's Day.  Anything before gets snapped up pretty quickly though.

Couldn't agree more -- guess we're waiting whether 7-8 Feb is a boy or a girl.

Sorry I am so late to the party. I could come up on Feb 8 (Sunday) for the day.

We usually wait until mid December to lock the Mid Atlantic Gathering house in but that was when we booked the END of February instead of the beginning of February.  Pretty sure this is by far the earliest we have moved on this... but are doing so because moving the dates up puts us in a tougher, busier, more competitive part of the season to try to book accommodations.

There is a strong push for Feb. 7-8  so let's just call it to give all of you who have taken the housing initiative a definite date to work with. I have a soft hold for those dates, Feb. 7-8, on the Mountaintop Chalet, our traditional spot off Jack Rabbit, so we will still a second "cool kids" house available if needed. PM me if you are interested in sharing cost of a second house.

@marznc, @crgildart, @NJskier164, @kitchener how bout we lock this thread and make it official?

Sounds good.  I just booked the Blue Knob Chalet ("Blue Knob Rental") along with marznc, ddanks, njskier164, and crgildart.  We've got 4 boys and 4 girls ages 9 - 16 included between us.  But, with kids in sleeping bags, we can expand our group a bedroom or two more (if anyone else can stand the cacophony) -- a few more rug rats are welcome, too.  Obviously, sleeping kids will be separated by gender!

Feb. 7-8, cool kids, tween/teen kids, slope slide lodging, . . . doesn't get any better than that for a MidA Gathering!  Lock it! :D
