Need help buying SLs

So the last skis I got were bought with the mentality that I'll buy the next ones myself and it's been almost 10 years from that. They're Atomic GS9s at 160cm long. Can't remember the sidecut right now but it's just over 14m turn radius. I liked the ski a lot when I was younger and didn't ski as well but they're getting old and small for me. I ski mostly on rather small hills so it's as many tight slalom turn as possible to get the most out of it. The just over 14m radius on my old skis is fine but I'd like something a bit tighter so a SL ski it is. Last season I demoed a few sets of skis, finding few that I like and few that were absolutely awful. The one I liked the most was Völkl Racetiger SL at 165cm. It handled like a beast and was great fun all around to ski with. I also tried the Nordica and Blizzard equivalents but they were either too stiff for me or their edges were badly taken care of. Both of them felt like they were going to slip away any moment on ice and even though neither of them never did they just overall didn't feel as great. I also tried Atomic Edge SL but that was only 157cm long and definitely too short and flimsy for me, felt just like my current skis on higher speeds. I've also skied some on my brothers much newer SL9s and while they are great they also suffer a bit on higher speeds but weren't as bad as the Edge SL.

I'd like to really try a proper FIS legal version of any SL but as they just aren't available for demo in my area that isn't gonna happen unless I buy a pair of them and here we come to the problem I'm facing. Should I just go and buy the Völkl that I liked or go for the FIS version. What is the difference between them? Also I could get last years Head i.SL RD for few hundred $ cheaper than the Völkls but then again I've not tried them and it makes me a bit scared. Does anyone have any experience with them so they could compare them either the Völkls, Nordicas or Blizzards.

The last thing I'm worried about is the sizing, especially if I decide to go with the FIS skis. I'm 6' and 150lbs in my early twenties. I've been skiing for my entire life but never done any real racing nor do I plan to. I would rate myself as an expert skier and like to go quite fast while still doing as many turns as possible. I'm fine with either 160cm or 165cm long skis, my current ones are 160cm and they don't feel too short. What I'm worried about is that I don't have enough power to properly use the 165cm FIS skis. How much of a difference there is between the 160 and 165cm long versions in stiffness, and should I maybe go with the shorter women's 160cm ski?

At 6', you will want the 165 even if your weight says 160, you will over leverage them. I think you will be happy with any of the FIS SL's, if you have access to the Head for a steal of a deal, grab them, they are very good skis.

You are young and (probably?) agile. Go ahead and get the fis racetiger 165. It is a great ski! Caution: if you buy them new they come flat, as in, no bevels on either the base or side edge so you would want to take care of that for sure.

But all the brands offer good stock skis so you probably wouldn't go wrong with any--but the tigers do seem to strike a nice balance of "energy" and grip while others might be just have the grip (won't feel as lively, especially at your weight).

The 165's may seem beefy at first, but after some time on them you will learn to appreciate that.

It seems like my plan of getting the 160cm skis got unanimously shot down. Just gotta hit the gym more often if I don't have enough power for them. ;) It seems like I'll be getting the Völkl's as the the Head's just sold out all the 165s.

Well as I live in Europe I'm not too keen on having skis shipped here from NA. I don't even want to know what the charges would be on a pair of skis.

I guess that was poor wording from my part. The shop that had a deal on the last years Head i.SL RD that I mentioned in the first post ran out of the 165cm skis before I got to order mine.
