If you could ski with one person that is a pro or olympic skier (past or present), who would it be?

Just curious. I'm thinking more along the lines of the ski porn peeps - Hoji, Permin, Plake, Shane etc. but I decided to include racers, as well.

I'm leaning towards Kaj Zackrisson. He seems like he would be a blast ski with (although, I probably couldn't ski WITH him).

Simon Elias--Chamonix guide. Very friendly, very concerned with clients' welfare. We were assigned to him through the Compagnie des Guides although he wasn't in uniform so maybe not an official CDG but works with them. Can be reached by phone at +33675366107 or maybe through the guide bureau if you're looking for a private guide. Excellent English.

Or my son--ex Squaw pro patrol. Is that professional enough?

Mikaela Shiffrin.  I could watch videos of her races all day long.  She is just poetry in motion.

I've always liked the "perfection is achieved when there's nothing left to remove, not when there's nothing left to add" comment.  Her skiing seems to reflect that -- nothing flashy, just wins (and grins).

Glen Plake would be cool.  I hear he's pretty laidback, gaper-tolerant, we're about the same age, and he does mom and pop ski area visits pretty regularly (the Down Home tour).  So there's a small chance it could actually happen, but it's not on my bucket list or anything.

Mikaela would be nice too, but only if she's wearing the skin-tight race suit.  I'd feel like a dirty old man asking her to put it on, but I'm willing to learn.

in the same vein as Spikedog, my intellect says Plake all day long but there's another part of me that would love to spend a day riding with Tina Maze.

Been there, done that. Mike Rogan. 3 day's at Stowe at an EPICSKI event. Just the 8 of us guy's. I believe that was 10 years ago this Dec.

If that's the goal, I'm not sure it really matters which female racer you follow -- Tina, Lindsey, Mikaela, Julia, etc.  All of them are head-turners.  Although Mikaela probably skis the "slowest" of any of them, so you could probably keep her in sight for a little longer.

Glen has visited a few of the MN small ski areas and I've heard he an amazing guy, taking time to meet anyone who wants to meet him, take pictures, let people try his personal skis, etc, etc,

seems like he loves the little feeder ski hills which is so damn cool

Glen Plake would be fun, on the chair ride up, in front of the lodge, at lunch, on the trails, and everywhere.

I'd pick him.

Rudy Garmisch.  If nothing else he'd help clear a path.

Or the "Two Dollars" kid from better off dead on matching ski-bikes.

I've skied with Glen....  2 days in an L3 ski exam where he was shadowing as a future examiner.... this was at Mammoth last spring.... also led a mogul clinic as part of the PSIA-W convention (my boys poached a run with him :) )...  oh yeah, and I skied with Glen's dad too... at Kirkwood :)

Pure fun, Julia.
Pure skiing, Mikaela
Pure History, JC Killy
If I could bring back a friend who left too soon, it would be Scott Murray, pro telemarker extraordinaire and just damned fun and great guy to ski with...

You can ski with Julia. Helps if you're six. After the Whistler Olympics they had a Ski with Julia day at Squaw for all the little kids in the weekly programs--I was riding up Headwall and there's literally hundreds of kids wall to wall top to bottom coming down Spring Bowl behind her. They all managed not to run into each other too. Squaw has had a ski with Johnny Moseley day a few times, although no one seemed to interested. I did ski with Travis Ganong early  last season, when only Red Dog and the Mountain Run were open. We were in a Funi car with him--he was lapping the MR. Well, I sorta skied with him--tried to follow him down but he lost me in the first five seconds.

Bode Miller.  Just the best skier I've ever seen, I've got a million questions for him.

There are so many gorgeous female skiers it would be hard to pick a favorite.  Actually, Ingrid Backstrom and Kit DesLauriers.

Bode is who first came to my mind too.

Glen Plake also sounds great.  Met him once.

I have skied with John Egan.

So true. Many years ago Kit jumped on a chair lift with a friend and me. I considered proposing to her right then and there! Very cool lady.

I was at perfect north when Nick Goepper was doing some runs after the olympics last season. He seemed like a cool guy would have tried to ride a lift with him but had my two year old out on her first day on the bunny slope. He seemed cool and was good with the kids in terrain park.

Buddy Warner. He was kind of the end of an era for American ski racing. Gustovo Turnie (sp).

Yeah,  Buddy Werner.  Never skied with him (it would have been way behind him), but he did teach me how to custom fit Heirling (Hierling?) boots a year or so before his death.  Terrific skier racer and genuinely nice guy.  Remembered my name months later at a crowded ski movie showing.

Ingemar Stenmark. The best.

Tomba and Bode

Geeez, ski with just one?

Can't think of anyone but Glen Plake with Seth Morrison and Rachel Burks just behind, but the Finndog and Bob Peters are close:cool

....However I wouldn't mind either grabbing a powder session with Brian Barlow sometime, as well as a rough-terrain skiing session with Johnny Mosley or Nelson Carmichael....and..on..and..on, so many great skiers..not to mention Kit, Kristen Ulmer, Ingrid, Hannah Hardaway, Sydney Dickenson, Krista Crabtree......
