We had rain measured in the inches. Terrible this year. Worried about spring break: there is basically no snow under 6000 feet, so what are all these vacationers going to do? Everyone wants to rent nordic skis and snowshoes as the alpine skiing will be crap until we get more snow, but there just isn't much terrain above 6000 feet around here to use. Everyone will be clustered at Mt. Bachelor and Dutchman.
This makes 3 out of 4 terrible Christmastime conditions. Highly, highly unusual. Or maybe the new norm? I am hoping the smaller ski areas don't go under this year.
Had lunch last week with a ski buddy who is a part timer (instructor) at Crystal. We were both thinking we might have to make a road trip to Bend to get some turns in. Now it looks like snow has finally arrived at Crystal.
Good point about being concerned about some ski areas going under. On Mt Hood, Ski Bowl is locally owned (Hannah is the owner?) and is a really nice, small hill to ski. Of the 3 main resorts on Mt Hood, Ski Bowl is the low elevation resort. Ski Bowl is still waiting for more snow so it can start operations.
