Trip to Jackson Hole

My wife and I just booked a late February to early March, 2015 trip to Jackson hole. We opted to stay in Jackson instead of at the mountain.  We are planning five days of skiing and a one day dog sled trip to Granite Hot Springs. Can anyone offer any advice, tips, etc. How easy is it to get to the mountain from Jackson? are there base lodges at leave extra gear? advice on ski trail ( I am an expert level 3 skier, she is a weak expert strong intermediate) She has done a few double blacks at Vail. Where should we ski on the mountain. Any recommendations on food choices in Jackson?

For skiing, please check out the EpicSki Unofficial Guide for Jackson Hole.  Then come back if you still have questions.

As for logistics, click on the Tag I added under Topics Discussed (right hand column).  It's a link to the JH Resorts Page.  Scroll to the bottom to see relevant threads and click on More for the complete list.  If you still have questions, feel free to post them up.

Plus that's right at the time of the EpicSki gathering at Jackson. If you hang around here awhile, you might want to meet up with the people here.

From the town of Jackson to the skiing is about a 20 minute drive and then $15/day for parking.

or

A bus from Jackson is $4-$5 I think.

or

Drive to the Stilson parking lot, about 1/2 way to the skiing, for the free Shuttle Bus..

Thanks I will take a look at the guides. I just located them on the site. I am sure I will be back for a few questions at some point.

Happy to help.  My first time at JH was last season.  My ski buddies and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to leave our skis and helmets in a locker at the JH base every night.  $15 for use during the day and overnight.  Can leave boots too, but we opted to take ours home.  I dried mine most of the way using the boot dryer "wall" in the locker room.

I will also be at JH in Feb, but the first two weeks of the month and will unfortunately miss both the Epic group and the OP. At the risk of highjacking the thread, let me ask a question about JH that hopefully will be of interest to the OP as well.

One of the ski shops - JH Sports I think - appears to offer a service to handle shipping skis to/from JH. There is not a lot of useful info that I could find on their website about it and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the service or better yet, actually used it. The airline (at least the one I'm using) charges $35 each way for your second bag. I'd be willing to pay a small premium to not have to lug the skis to and from the airport, so to me, the service seems ideal.

Let me add that I've found the Unofficial Guides on Epic to be very helpful and have used them for visits to about a half-dozen mountains already. The Unofficial Guide to JH is very nicely done and I've already read it over a couple of times!

I looked into the JH sports shipping service. I found out that they don't service my zip code for pick up and drop of. I am wondering if they just service large cities.

I also found the JH unoffical guide great help. WE are bringing a copy with us for our trip out to JH in Fed/March. One question I do have is about rentals. I think we are both going to rent demo skis for our trip to JH. I saw there were several shops at the base area and I am sure there are some in Jackson as well. Can anyone recommend a good rental shop with a good selection and good prices? I am wondering if I rent at the base area, it the shop would store my skis over night. ANyone have any insight.

Paging @Bob Peters

I found a website for a service called SkipSkis that partners with FedEx and UPS.  Seems to be related to ShipSticks for golf clubs.  Might be worth a call.

Last season my friend's suitcase didn't make it to SLC.  He carried on his boots and got his ski bag, so had enough in it for him to ski since it wasn't that cold.  What we learned the hard way was that the FedEx office in Jackson closes relatively early, meaning before 5pm.  Southwest sent his bag to JH once it arrived in SLC since we couldn't wait around for a day for it.
