Boot/Binding Suggestions

Thread Starter

Hello - I am looking to get some suggestions for selecting boots and bindings before going to a store or demo.  Quick background, live in Chicago, 5'10 160lbs, make 3-5 trips west each year (have always rented), ski just about everything lift served and some that require short hike.  Buddy of mine recently had an injury that will keep him from skiing this year and he had just purchased 2015 Stockli SR95s.  He graciously offered to let me use them this year and buy them from him if I liked them but I need to get boots/bindings.  Read some very good reviews of the skis and took him up on the offer.  Given my limited knowledge I was hoping to get a little direction as to what I should be looking for and perhaps some suggestions so that I don't go in blind.

Let me know if there is any additional information I should provide. Thanks in advance!

 JC,

follow the link below and pay close attention to how to "Shell check" a boot to determine which one should work:

All bindings have to work the same as far as safety is concerned.

All downhill bindings will work with any downhill boot you buy.  Key is to get boots right.  Mike's link to the Wikis here will help.  If you can't find good fitting in Chicago, then you could plan one of your trips around one of the fitters on this site if you like.  We cover Vail, Aspen, Telluride, Squaw, Lake Louise/Banff and some back east I can't think of and probably some more in the west.  Mike also is not far from you.  All we can do online is kind of point you in a direction, roughly.  In the end everything will depend on who you find in a store to actually do the work.

Mike & Lou,

Thank you for the information and the helpful article. Just realized this may not be the appropriate place to post such a broad question, apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate the responses.  To the extent I am unable to find a good fit in Chicago, I will reach out.
