C'mon guys, an aquatic center would be cool. Telling me to drive to Truckee to swim is a bit like telling me to drive to Northstar to ski. Incline? Mammoth!
If every condo project in California were to empty its pool, California's water issues would not change a bit. I'm "out of touch"?!
Swimming is incredibly popular. My brother is a Masters swimmer. He travels all over to meets or to train (including Truckee). The high altitude training of a pool at Squaw would be a huge draw. A pool would also allow Squaw's ski teams to expand the training options (flips into a pool are a lot easier than off a kicker). Clearly there is a benefit to locals but it does not exclude the greater community from these benefits.
Squaw is a resort for our recreational pleasure. Limiting us to just the existing skiing (maybe with better lifts) is short sighted. Who hasn't looked down the White Wolf slopes lustfully on those powder days? Who hasn't sought out other activities when the snow is crappy? The potential for summer is huge. I'm willing to accept the vision of the resort owners and developers who are trying to improve my recreational experience. At Squaw, they seem to be doing good things for me. I'll give their plans the benefit of the doubt.
Evening rant over.
First time not doing well on the Alpine bus connection. Long wait with a bus parked in the lot. All forgotten and forgiven once we found the fun snow. Sweet spring conditions! Best snow of the season for me - but I love slushy spring snow. Perfect timing for the bus ride home. Great day!
I still want a big storm... soon.
