Anybody have some good recommendations for accommodation in Zermatt??  Lot's of  2 bed hotels and apartments but we're a group of 4 guys and don't want to share 2 double beds!  Budget is flexible.

Thanks!

I would try contacting the tourist information here http://www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Attractions/Zermatt-tourist-office

The average room will have a double bed base with two separate duvets. Only a few will have two totally separate beds. The tourist information should know and give you a list.

My main concern when booking in Zermatt is how far I have to walk from the hotel to the ski bus.

Gee thanks!  That's very useful information...  I have been to Zermatt once before so I know what to expect and I did say my budget was flexible.  I would have thought my post was pretty self explanatory that I was looking for specific recommendations.

I've stayed at both the hotel Alfa and Hotel Metropol. They're owned and operated by the same couple, and are in two price ranges. Within walking distance to Sunegga train.
Enjoy your trip!

Bring your sense of humor.

OK, OK, I don't have my copy of Where to Ski and Snowboard here, but that's where I'd look for a hotel, and in Zermatt I'd choose based as much on proximity to whatever lift I wanted to take first thing in the morning (probably Sunnegga) as anything else.  On this forum you're going to find a handful of people who've each been to Zermatt once or twice and have stayed in one hotel, not much more than that. Not sure what you expected.

To be fair, Zermatt is so popular that you can just go on a site like hotels.com and find rooms. I did a quick search and found a couple that were around $650 for 7 nights in a single room in mid-January, but most of them were around $1000-1150 for a week.

The main problem that you're going to run into is that most hotels won't have 4 single rooms available. So, if you're set on staying in single rooms in hotels, then you're probably going to end up staying in at least 2 separate hotels.

I was hoping to get some insider information that's not in the guidebooks.  Sure I can seach every hotel etc... believe me I've looked.  However, I know there's lots of apartments that could be rented which are not advertised on the usual, global sites because they have a regular clientele.

Exactly why I posted here... just thought I'd take a chance in case someone had some insider knowledge.

There's a chance that you can find two 2-bedroom apartments in the same building. It might be worth checking on the Zermatt website.

Stayed at the Hotel Couronne a few years back. Walk out the ski locker room, and about 50' later, you have your choice of buses going to Rothorn area, or to Klein Matterhorn area. Basically equa distance. Very good breakfast, and walking distance to most of the village.
