IDK. Gore used to be better for moguls I think. Lat few times I have been there Chattiemac has been groomed. Back in the day it was top to bottom bumps and a lot of fun. Does Whiteface have moguls? Whiteface is tall and fairly steep, but to me every run feels the same (all groomed flat). I haven't skied there in at least 6 years though so things may have changed? And yes Gore can be a pain for boarders. Gore does have some really nice glades that feel off pistyish. Thing is, neither hill has anything close to skiinskiout lodging.
Yep, not going to get ski in/out together with off-piste or bumps in the Adirondacks. But that can mean shorter lift lines on weekends compared to VT. Plus easier driving when starting in Rochester. Driving east-west to VT includes a fair amount of 2-lane road. Unlike starting from NYC, NJ, or CT.
Don't really know Gore or WF that well. Had a few days at each last winter, which was my first experience as an advanced skier willing to explore east coast bumps. Had other reasons to be in Lake Placid during ski season. If you look at the first photo carefully, there is a father near the top who was talking his younger son down a fairly long bump run. Could see another even steeper bump run from the lift that goes to the Wilmington trail.
