What's right about this site?

I thought that other subject line should be superseded by something more accurate: this site is just about right. What other site has as diverse, outspoken, intelligent, and inquiring a group involved? What other site has spawned an Academy? What other site has access to Fox's sister's jokes?

The answer is none other than EpicSki.com.

I bring this up to invite newbies to join the community and be an EpicSki Supporter. As the community grows, so does the cost of hosting the site. There's a button at the bottom left of the page to send a donation of your choice.

EpicSki Supporters get access to the Lounge, where you can get to know fellow Bears in a "no-topics-barred" area, and original resources in the Premium Article Collection.

What's right about this site?

I completely forgot to make my donation to AC at the Academy.

Well now I made sure that "The cheque is in the mail". Or more accurately, the PayPal thingy has been completed.

Thanks Nolo for the reminder!

And thanks AC for this great forum.

Diverse. outspoken, intelligent, for sure. I would like to add mature or serious, very little posturing or ego surfing, just honest talk and a welcoming attitude. The prolific posters here are quick to engage you and eager to lend their advice and wisdom.

I've let my subscriptions to almost all of my ski magazines expire since becoming a supporter and daily surfer. Powder will expire next year and I doubt I'll renew. There is just more useful, timely info here then any magazine that went to the publisher months ago. So instead of feeding the publishing empire, I'll support EpicSki. This is a real comminity where your thoughts matter.

"What's right about this site?" is pretty much everthing, but I'll limit my commments to the top reasons I'm here:

(1) An opportunity to learn, from a broad range of skiers.

(2) An opportunity to communicate with and get FREE damit! FREE advice from top professionals, women and men with whom I otherwise would not have that opportunty - free or otherwise!

(3) An opportunity to meet and ski with a broad range of skiers, many of whom would not ski with me, at my level, were I not a fellow Bear.

(4) An opportunity to find access, collected all at one site, to:

(a) the sites of virtually all ski equipment companies;
(b) a slew of invaluable instruction articles;
(c) equipment reviews
(d) ski weather
(e) destination information
(f) etc etc etc

The friendships I've made, the knowledge I've gained, the regular and frequent communications I've had due solely to EpicSki.com have enriched my life immeasurably.

All of these things occur in a free environment - kept free, on point and civil by sparing, judicious administrative regulation. All these things arranged and organized in a useful, user friendly format.

. . . and so far, this site has been accessed by all for FREE. While completely voluntary contributions from members help to defray the costs of operating EpicSki.com, they in no way cover those costs yet - and they may never be enough to do that unless, perhaps, 100% of all registered members send in contributions - say, $20 each from every member. Please do your part.

I thought you loved me for being ME, but no, you're just using me to get to my sister.

But you want to know what's right about this place?
No, not that stuff of long threads, but balance of members. A variety. We're not all gear heads, or all spotty teenagers, or all geeks. We are a variety of people from a variety of backgrounds. We are a global village. And every village needs an idiot. That's where I come in.

Despite a lackluster response of moos from her local residents, an ineffably diminished nolo turns her cheerleading skills on us.

So send in your money.

You are a true leader. Great thread.

Just came back from the NE Gathering. What other site has such get-togethers from all walks of life.

It was fun. Looking forward to many more great times on this site.

What's right about this site/ Finding out that its members are as cool in person as they are online!

. . . and thank you, LM, for skiing with Mrs. oboe - she and I appreciate it, and she is very highly impressed by your energy. She said, "She's amazing! She keeps skiing, and skiing, and skiing . . . she just doesn't stop! How does she DO that?!"

The pleasure was mine! As i said in another thread, I want to start a "reluctant wives" ski group! See what kind of bad influence i can be on people!

i may be a relatively recent addition to the community, but i have been pleasantly surprised at the wealth of info that can be found on this venue. from weather, to tic discounts, to general mayhem, i wish i would have found this site years back! people seem genuinely friendly and willing to provide, sometimes much needed, info for trips and gear etc. i may not currently be a supporter, but i plan on becoming one, and i look forward to meeting some 'bears' in person, hopefully in the future (utah anyone?) and it never hurts to know that you are not the only crazed ski bum who is sitting inside stewing and waiting for the next day you can skip work and hit the mountains... 'misery loves company'

Less likely to be hammered here for not being "cool". A question or remark may scream GAPE, but you're more than likely to get a considered response.
I appreciate that.

The pics of ryan in da pants, AltaSkier in da one piece, Ott wedelen, and many others!

The Jamesdeluxe fracture saga!

Gonzostrikes inability to "dance" (post) without stepping on someones toes.

The occasional love sick summer soap opera stuff. :

The occasional (former) Bear who gets miffed because another Bear says something, which isn't politically correct or points out his "toupee" looks like a really bad rug and histronically storms off to pout in his own "room". I know you guys are lurking, you know who you are.

Nolo's unstoppable cheerleading.

ValeSnoPro, Bob Barnes, and myriad others technical experts.

Fox's village idiot routines, by the way fox, while you were at the academy, London called and said they were missing one idiot. Do you know anything about that?

Stupid questions that arn't, and some that are.

"Should I wear a helmet?" threads!!

The fact that EpicSki isn't PowMag, but does compliment PowMag nicely.

The ability to talk with, tease, and laugh with Matteo, disski, DangerousBrian and all the other Bears who live thousands of miles from my home.

And most importantly, AC's ability, and grace at the nearly lost art of cat herding.

edit: forgot an e in toupee.

What's right about it? The people who contribute in any form.

The resounding dominance of common sense; over internet antics!!
