Just let me know. I am here most of the season I would be happy to make some turns and have a beer with you.

Hey Finn,

I am mostly a lurker here, and admittedly only an intermediate skier (although I'm trying to step up my game) but I am stoked to visit the Boat this winter. My wife and I (shes advanced) will be there in early to mid Feb (likely around Feb 8-9) for 4-5 days. We would love to meet up and see it from a local's perspective and treat you to a beer or two. It will be our fist Colorado ski trip, so needless to say, we are pumped. Thanks for being so kind!

I will be out there at some point this season.  Not sure when, but will post when I do.

Already booked.  Feb. 23 - 28 inclusive.

Me, wife and 2 kids.  They're intermediates looking to experience some off-piste type stuff, glades, etc and improve their skills.  First trip out west for the kids.

We'll be staying in a slopeside condo.  Won't have a vehicle in SB until we leave for Winter Park the following week.  We're totally open to options Finn, if you're available at some point.

Which part? Babysitting a 4yo, or having Finn babysit my 4 year old?

Well, the latter is scary scary. The former is merely scary.

We'll be there March 1 - March 7. My son and I are really looking forward to skiing there for the first time! Thanks to all!

The rest of us have an option on Finn's time for the Gathering week from the tail end of Feb. into the first week of March. Got it? Now go have fun filling up the rest of his calendar.

Yes to this and a couple of other visits as well. Gotta use the RMSP+.

Don't have the dates nailed down quite yet but will likely be around the first of February. Should know sometime soon. Hopefully we can get meet up for some turns and/or beer this year.

I added a Rocky Mountain Super Plus pass to the Epic Pass this year, so I have 6 days at Steamboat to make the most of.
I plan to be there whenever Joel says Steamboat is going to get the most snow!
The other factor is a matter of when it falls. I almost never ski weekends, because I don't have to. I much prefer avoiding crowds and taking advantage of lower mid-week room rates.
I'll buy you a beer!

I got the RMSP+ , and try to only ski weekdays as well.

Skied the boat the first week of feb last season, I was amazed at how much more snow there was on the upper vs lower Mtn. There was a close to a foot up top, but only a few inches at the bottom. I guess that's an effect of a "low" base elevation.

I'm always down for meeting other skiers!

Nice! Joel is pretty good for sure. when do we get the most snow?  You're guess is as good as mine but typically (meaning its only roughly accurate) late December through early Feb, then it tends to lighten up till the end of January and then all bets are off. :D With the exception of holidays, we really dont much of any lift lines especially if you are skiing over in Pony.

For sure there's almost always more snow at higher elevations.Depending on what aspect the storm comes in and how much cold air comes with it will determine where on the mountain gets the most snow.  Last year at that time we had some very unusual temps though. It was unusually wamr, we even had rain in town.  Thats a perfect example of why you can't pay too much attention to what is "normal" or typical.  Also, if you look at the official snow totals, you will see that statistically, the top doesn't get much more snow than the mid mountain (9K vs. 10.5K) however, the reality is that the top does indeed get more snow.   Much more in fact!  I can't divulge too much but there are a few areas that get substantially more snow on a Northern storm :D

I was planning on taking a few days in mid-December, if the snow is good.

Part of the fun of our common obsession is watching the weather, and Open Snow (as well as other sites) do a great job of storm tracking. In the last couple of years - even in the lean times - I have enjoyed great snow.

Joel generally does a great job of predicting, 12-24 hours out, which resorts will benefit most from a storm.

I will definitely make it over Rabbit Ears a few times as the snow is starting to settle in, and what a beautiful sight that is. Seeing the big herds of elk outside of Kremmling and catching a glimpse of a moose around Muddy Pass are just icing on the cake.

See you some time in December!

BS

to be fair, with all the factors at play in the mountains (not just rockies) 12-24 hours is more like the relative window of accuracy.

Hiya!  Coming from Crested Butte to SB in December 28 or 29.  Maybe overnighting night before in Frisco.  Fastest, prettiest route to SB from there?

If we go straight from CB, fastest route?

Gracias!
