Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for taking the time to offer any assistance.
I've never been able to control my left ski properly. I've been to Breckenridge, Snowshoe in West Virginia, and Killington, renting equipment from each place, and I've had an issue at each resort with each set of equipment, which leads me to believe it is not a specific pair that is giving me trouble. I ski groomed runs, greens-blacks.
So one of the biggest issues I have is the extreme difficulty of coming out of left turns. Whenever I come out of left turns, my left ski's inside edge catches, and I fall. This leads me to believe I have a canting issue with my boot. (I can provide more details if needed). Support of the canting theory is that I never feel comfortable on straight, flat stretches, which to my understanding is also caused by a canting issue.
There are two more things I struggle with, which are making me doubt that canting is the only issue I'm dealing with.
My left boot always feels "loose." To make up for it, I always get a really tight boot, as well as double and triple up on socks. I don't know if this actually helped. I just feel like my right boot/ski is very responsive, while my left boot/ski is totally not.
To further my explanation, whenever I am trying to severely slow down or stop completely, using my left ski as the downhill ski perpendicular to the slope, I always feel like I can't believe it. Like I feel like I'm having to use my heel separately from my toes/balls of my feet (the top part) to apply pressure. I feel like I am super out of balance, so it gives my left ski a sort of wobbly/back and forth look to it instead of a solid, consistent look/action as my right ski provides. What is up with that?
And I feel like this is related to my last point, but it could be just poor technique, or maybe this is just how to ski. Please let me know. But I feel like my heels always come up a little in my boot. For example, if I were going straight downhill, but I wanted to lay on the brakes a little, or perhaps start a turn, I would want to kick out my skis a little to one side and skid (essentially). When I do that, I don't feel my feet/ankles/legs moving as one. A lot of times, if not all, I feel my heels move up in my boot, and I'm just using the pressure from the balls of my feet to maneuver. To me it sounds like I have loose boots, but I just really don't think that's the case. I don't think it's technique either.
Please help. I'm tired of not knowing what plagues me.
I'm 22, male, 140-145 pounds. Let me know if you need more information from me. And thank you again.
