I am looking to relocate over the next 24 months to a better skiing area. 400 vert hill is not cutting it. I am looking for several items but realize I might have to sacrifice some. I think the main things I would like are a town that is close to skiing, has good road cycling preferably dedicated bike paths and a very good developmental program for a 7 year old.I do have three young children so schools are a concern. Preferably public school options. I would need something with a good hospital nearby as my wife is a nurse and wants to continue her career. I am considering the following areas any input on them and other options I have not looked at would be helpful. I do plan to do a long trip next summer to check all of them out and see what is a good fit. I also prefer to be in area where I can buy a 4 bedroom house for under $400,000.
I am considering the following towns.
Summit County Co/Eagle County Co
Vail has a great kids ski program available. Great bike paths for summer recreation. I can live in frisco, silverthorne or dillon and commute to vail for the ski program. Great ski areas all over the area. Not much for my wife's nursing career near is a downfall. Also housing is very expensive.
Great Ski areas near. Squaw has a good kids program. I am not sure on hospitals but assume there are alot of options for that. Not sure on road cycling or bike paths. Lake Tahoe sounds like a good option. We vacation on lake erie now so that would probably be comparable for summer family trips. No income tax is huge plus. Anyone on know about bike paths and hospitals? Also I see housing seems cheaper where do I need to look if I am regularly making trips to squaw?
Salt Lake City
I have not dug into much here but with the inversion issue, funky liquor laws and unsure about moving a young family that may or may not have issues with morman kids not accepting them it seems like it would not be a fit. However it would be a great home base area to be able to travel the western states. I do think there are some good ski programs for kids and hospitals so it is on the list to see. Anyone have insight to bike path or how road cycling is? Also where is best place to be that is close to ski areas and cost effective for housing?
Does anyone have any other towns that could fit the key requirements of ski area, development program, bike paths and good hospitals close for employment?
Thanks for the help. I am looking at taking a long trip next year after school is out and want to get the planning in progress.
