good natured ribbing - OR - insult intended to offend?

Thread Starter
in a recently shut thread, Jerry Garcia's stunt double had the temerity to insult my choice of job and my ability to do it ethically and without lying to others.

in almost every circle in which I've run during my 42 years, such a statement -- whether made personally or through correspondence -- cannot be deemed a joke, not even of the darkest type of humor.

what did I do to deserve that? not appear at the Gathering? that warrants someone posting a PUBLIC STATEMENT that I am a liar and unable to keep my word regarding all things related to my chosen job and my ability to do it?

I think dchan's decision to close the thread merely prolongs and promotes the type of unprovoked personal insult that Kneale hurled my way. Bonni did likewise but for some reason decided to withdraw her insult by using an emoticon reflecting an insincere withdrawal.

do you folks honestly despise me for not appearing at the Gathering? did it warrant personal insults related NOT to my no-show, but rather related to my core person, my ethics, and my ability to be an effective, ethical and professional lawyer?

and ryan... what is it that prevents you from seeing the difference between my ability to accept "sticks and stones" on a comical insult level, versus my INABILITY to sit idly by while Kneale assaults my lawyering ability and my ethics & morality?

I'm baffled. Maybe some of you can shed some light, no matter how dim.

Gonz,

basically, you're brighter than your posts of this particular nature. i won't tell you how to react to perceived slights, but i'll suggest that what goes around, comes around.

i think you have it in you to take the proverbial higher road and reign in your quickest reactions.

i don't intend to sound condescending; i just think you have more to offer. i have, for example, found your gear-related input to be valuable and good reading. i think you undermine your value - to get to the point - by being so quick to sling, or, as you see it, sling back.

btw, opening a supposedly genuine/sincere post/inquiry referring to "jerry garcia," etc., just doesn't inspire confidence in your level of seriousness.

OK, anyone who has ever had an unprovoked personal insult that Gonzo hurled your way, stand up.

who called him that? not me. check your sources. the name was issued well before I took it up. he didn't respond with a "please don't call me that."

there is no "high road" leading from the intersection created by Kneale's insult.

there is a huge difference between jokes about a person's bad habits (my procrastination and disorganization leading to a no-show at the Gathering), and jokes about a person's choice of job, especially when the job is one that carries a lot of ethical and moral weight. a lying lawyer is a useless lawyer.

this is so hard to see? so hard to understand?

yeah, and recite it, Kima.

I insulted Vail. You took it personally. That's a HUGE difference. I didn't say you were the reason Vail was bad. I said Vail was bad because of its hyper-ritzy resortitude. I didn't say "Vail sucks because Kima skis there"

see the difference?

i suspect this will NOT be a long-lived thread, BUT...

as far as i know, i was the first to tell Kneale he bears a striking resemblance to Jerry Garcia. You'd have to inquire as to his reaction to the various ways this phenomenon has been communicated to him.
Sometimes it isn't THAT it's said, it's the HOW of it.

The original version had to be edited by Dchan, so it has lost some of its impact.

Oh Gonz, I worry for you that you maybe losing some memory function.

That said I am done with this thread.

Kima,

since I've never met you I couldn't have said those things about you. as I've said, I was speaking of the "typical Vail skier" in my jibe. I didn't mention you by name. The "editing" did not remove a personal direction. My insult of Vail was NOT directed at you personally. You merely read it that way.

I guess all that extensive PM'ing on mtn bike fit and riding technique was useless, huh? yeah, I really hate you.

I refuse to believe that you left them in your hotel room.

Kind of like Radar O'Reilly leaving his teddy bear in Korea...
No, I DID leave them in the room. On purpose. It was my intent to rid myself of something that had served its purpose. (And I want to thank ALL OF YOU who showed that Saturday in your one-pieces and such.
Yes, I want to thank all ZERO of you who did that.)

Anyway, Mr. Maddog's counsel awakened me to the likelihood that The Pants had been too quickly retired. I called the hotel and they have shipped them back. (So, fear not.)

Which reminds me...

have we seen the pics that were ALLEGEDLY taken of Alta_Skier and Al-Fredo at - gasp - Deer Valley?

(there IS a break between Alta and Skier, right?)

"you SURE you want to get on these? are you SURE?"

was it the outfit? who can say for sure?

Gonzo,

1. The resentment toward you by many members is not a reflection of your not attending the gathering, but of the consistent disrespect your demonstrate to others through persistent personal attacks. You are the only one who views your attacks of others as humor, so perhaps you are the one who needs to reassess the distinction between an attack and "good-natured ribbing" -- you seem to have a better sense of the difference with comments sent toward you than with those you make toward others.

2. Going through a long thread post-by-post to delete selected comments is a colossal waste of my and dchan's time, and it is selfish of you to expect us to do this simply because you can't handle the logical results of something you started a long time ago. Deleting a thread removes any valuable posts contained within, and there were some worth keeping in the beginning of the thread dchan closed. I support dchan's move to stop a thread that started out good and then spun into senselessness -- and doing so without wasting too much of his time.

3. I will now waste some of my time, which you clearly and erroneously feel is worth less than yours, to make you happy (by removing the controversial posts in the other thread). You're welcome.

4. If you want more respect from others, then treat them with more respect yourself. You make a lot if intelligent contributions to this forum, and ryan is right that you undermine those thoughtful posts with this other garbage.

Just now, going through that other thread, I saw physical threats. There will be no warnings after this: Any comment threatening violence will result in the immediate and irrevocable removal of that person from the EpicSki forum.

I'm agreeing with AC,

BUT, I must get back to the off topic picture posted above.

Alta, there must be a word for that in the Profanisaurus! But I guess that's what DV deserves!

Interesting!!!!

I didn't get to see where that post went and just how many people got involved, but I must admit that I sensed it turning into a 'dogpile' and dove right in. I would now like to apologize for that action, whether justified or not. Gonz contributes to this forum in many ways and I appreciate that. I hope everyone here will join in with a hearty Razz!!! to show we meant no harm.

Ryan -

Sorry to hear the pants are gone. I finally picked up the t-shirt I owe you & it would have gone perfectly with the pants. It took longer than expected to get the shirt but when you see where its from you'll think the wait was worth it. To give you a hint, the ski area uses cattle ear tags & baling wire to number the chairs on their new used chair.

AltaSkier, thanks for posting a photograph commemorating that fateful day at Deer Valley for time and all eternity!

Ryan, those are some nice pants

Does anyone know of a twelve-step program for Fred, Alta Skier and Ryan?

Thanks for the belly-laughs.

No, that's Fred on the left and AltaSkier on the right. I am the one in the fur-trimmed Bogner and Bob is wearing the chamois Nils with the studded belt. I will post those pics when I can find the time.

the offending thread

Is this it, Gonzo? It's obviously been cleaned up, as your THREAT to Kneale is no longer there.

I am in agreement with AC. You need to respect others to get respect. But I can't hold this in any longer, so here goes my

RANT/

I am sick to death of your attitude. Your double standards disgust me, and you provoke people for no reason other than your sick sense of entertainment. As for my "INSINCERITY", well, you don't know me from Adam, and those that DO know me would agree that if I apologize for something, it IS SINCERE. You always say how people can't judge you because they don't know you, yet here you are pretending to know my intentions. : How pathetic and hypocritical of you.

I am tired of hearing you say, "GO to Paula's. Stop projecting. I hate the "victim" of this, that, the other thing. This forum makes me nauseous. Take your Barney attitude....", and all of your other insults to people. No wonder people poke fun of you and give you crap.

I don't hear you jumping on Fox, though, do I? Read that thread. Why aren't you all up in HIS face? huh! I believe you're picking on me now. You're the biggest hypocrite I have ever known, and if you think it's humorous, then I have no sense of humor.

Take AC seriously, change your ways, and you won't GET crap tossed at you anymore. Find a way to express yourself without pissing people off, and maybe others won't give it back to you. Otherwise, quit whining about what you get!

End Rant/

And I am sorry, AC, to keep this going, and you know I am sincere, but when I get a personal attack like this, I find it hard to sit by and just take it. I don't want to be next to get threatened to get MY lights punched out just for having an opinion! :

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say, Enough is enough. Thanks for letting me vent.
